Uptown Games return

Uptown Games return

Time to lace up.

The Uptown Games, now in its fifth year, will return this weekend to The Armory New Balance Track and Field Center.

Hosted by Senator Adriano Espaillat, Councilmembers Ydanis Rodríguez and Mark Levine, the Armory Foundation and New York Road Runners, the Games will be held Sun., April 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

More than 500 students in 3rd through 8th grades from more than 40 schools will receive athletic instruction from New York Road Runners and Armory staff members before participating in short and long distance races, team relays, shot put, and other events.

Among the schools participating are Hamilton Heights Elementary on 146th Street and Amsterdam Avenue; the Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School on Dyckman Street; local parochial schools; and after-school programs like the “Team Dreamers”.

As organized, the Games are not about competition, but an event that seeks to address high obesity levels in Northern Manhattan by providing information to families on healthy habits, and offering them exposure to track and field disciplines in a stress-free, supportive atmosphere.

The Armory New Balance Track and Field Center is located at 216 Fort Washington Avenue, between 168th and 169th Streets.
