Detective Haydee Pabey of the 34th Precinct has been recognized for her community service work in Washington Heights and Inwood.
A 16-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, Pabey received a 2015 Caring New Yorker award from health insurer Fidelis Care and the New York Liberty basketball team. The award is intended to honor New York City professionals who demonstrate community leadership and activism to help those in need.
“The Caring New Yorker Award pays tribute to these incredible individuals who through their selfless and caring acts have made an extraordinary impact within their communities,” said Fidelis Care Chief Marketing Officer Pamela Hassen.
The award was presented to Pabey, along with two other honorees, during an on-court ceremony at the Liberty’s August 28 game at Madison Square Garden.
As a Community Affairs liaison for the 34th Precinct, Pabey has played an active role with the Police Officer Michael J. Buczek Little League and the National Night Out Against Crime.
“We try to promote better relationships between the community and the police, especially when it involves young people,” said Pabey, who helps organize holiday parties for children and families at the precinct headquarters and other locations in Washington Heights.
She also shares law-enforcement and safety information with area residents and works to forge partnerships between her precinct and local organizations.
“It’s a great honor,” remarked Pabey of her award.

La detective Haydee Pabey de la 34ª Comisaría ha sido reconocida por su servicio comunitario en Washington Heights e Inwood.
Una veterana de 16 años del Departamento de Policía de Nueva York (NYPD por sus siglas en inglés), Pabey recibió el premio Caring New Yorker 2015 de parte de la aseguradora médica Fidelis Care y del equipo de baloncesto New York Liberty. El premio pretende honrar a los profesionales de la ciudad de Nueva York que demuestran liderazgo comunitario y activismo para ayudar a los necesitados.
“El Premio Caring New Yorker rinde homenaje a estas increíbles personas, quienes a través de sus actos desinteresados y solidarios han tenido un impacto extraordinario en sus comunidades”, dijo Pamela Hassen, directora de Mercadotecnia de Fidelis Care.
El premio fue entregado a Pabey, junto con otros dos galardonados, durante una ceremonia en la cancha durante el juego de Liberty, el 28 de agosto, en el Madison Square Garden.
Como enlace de Asuntos Comunitarios para la 34a Comisaria, Pabey ha desempeñado un papel activo con la Pequeña Liga oficial de policía Michael J. Buczek y la organización nacional Night Out Against Crime.
“Intentamos promover mejores relaciones entre la comunidad y la policía, sobre todo cuando se trata de los jóvenes”, dijo Pabey, quien ayuda a organizar fiestas para los niños en la sede de la comisaría y en otros lugares de Washington Heights.
Ella también comparte información sobre seguridad y la aplicación de la ley con los residentes del área y trabaja para forjar alianzas entre su comisaría y las organizaciones locales.
“Es un gran honor”, comentó Pabey sobre su premio.
