Local residents are being invited to walk the walk, and talk the talk, on uptown parks this Saturday with District 10’s Councilmember Ydanis Rodríguez.
An earlier meeting this summer led Councilmember Rodríguez to organize a walk through several parks and playgrounds so that residents could weigh in and provide input on what they felt were the community’s greatest parkland needs and help identify important capital, renovation and beautification projects.
“Our parks are one of our greatest treasures uptown and I want everyone in the community to be able to give their input about their future,” he explained.
Councilmember Rodríguez said that the walking tour of local parks would be an opportunity to view and discuss the issues firsthand, and would enhance an understanding of what needed to be done, and when.
And, he noted, this was an ongoing dialogue.
“After the walk, my office will take all suggestions into account and work with the Department of Parks and Recreation and the official partners to assess what is doable short term and what will be more long term projects,” he added. “We hope to keep everyone who participates informed and keep open communication with them moving forward.”
The event will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the New Leaf Cafe on Sat., Oct. 26th, with a brief breakfast, after which the walk will commence. It is expected to last approximately two hours, and will visit several locations, including:
- Jacob Javitz Playground
- Ft. Tryon Park
- Anne Loftus Playground
- Dyckman Fields
- Inwood Hill Park
- Isham Park
The walk is sponsored by New Leaf Cafe, Fort Tryon Park Trust, the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), Inwood Community Services, Friends of Isham Park, State Senator Adriano Espaillat and Assemblymember Gabriela Rosa.
“Our residents are our best advocates,” said Councilmember Rodríguez. “I know we all share the same goals of keeping the parks beautiful, safe and clean.”

Se ha invitado a los residentes locales a actuar con hechos en los parques del norte del condado este sábado con el concejal del distrito 10, Ydanis Rodríguez.
Una reunión a principios del verano llevó al concejal Rodríguez a organizar un paseo a través de varios parques y zonas de juegos para que los residentes pudieran sopesar y dar su opinión sobre lo que para ellos son las mayores necesidades de los parques de la comunidad y ayudar a identificar los más importantes proyectos de renovación y embellecimiento.
“Nuestros parques son uno de nuestros mayores tesoros en el norte del condado y quiero que todos en la comunidad puedan dar su opinión sobre su futuro”, explicó.
El concejal Rodríguez dijo que el recorrido a pie de los parques locales sería una oportunidad para ver directamente y discutir los problemas de estos, además de favorecer la comprensión de lo que debe hacerse, y cuándo.
Y, señaló, se trata de un diálogo permanente.
“Después de la caminata, mi oficina tomará todas las sugerencias en cuenta y trabajará con el Departamento de Parques y Recreación y los interlocutores oficiales para evaluar lo que es factible a corto plazo y cuáles serán los proyectos más a largo plazo”, agregó. “Esperamos tener a todos los participantes informados y mantener la comunicación abierta con ellos para seguir avanzando”.
El evento comenzará a las 8:45 a.m. en el New Leaf Cafe el sábado 26 de octubre, con un breve desayuno, después iniciará la caminata. Se espera que dure aproximadamente dos horas, y visitará varios lugares, entre ellos:
- Zona de juegos Jacob Javitz
- Parque Ft. Tryon
- Zona de juegos Anne Loftus
- Dyckman Fields
- Parque Inwood Hill
- Parque Isham
La caminata es patrocinada por New Leaf Cafe, Fideicomiso del Parque Fort Tryon, el Proyecto de Restauración de Nueva York (NYRP), Servicios Comunitarios Inwood, Amigos de Parque Isham, el senador estatal Adriano Espaillat y la asambleísta Gabriela Rosa.
“Nuestros residentes son nuestros mejores defensores”, dijo el concejal Rodríguez. “Sé que todos compartimos los mismos objetivos de mantener los parques hermosos, seguros y limpios”.
