Shonibare Summer of Art: Touch Tour for the Blind and Visually Impaired at the Morris-Jumel Mansion (MJM) is being presented in conjunction with Yinka Shonibare MBE’s “Colonial Arrangements” exhibit. Using sample fabrics and materials, including examples of Yinka’s Dutch wax cottons, MJM’s team of educators will lead a special touch tour of the Mansion designed for children and adults who are blind or otherwise visually impaired. Free with museum admission. At the Mansion, 65 Jumel Terrace between West 160th and West 162nd Streets, one block east of St. Nicholas Avenue.

The Biodiversity at Muscota Marsh and Nearby Mud Flats

At one time, wetlands ringed the island of Manhattan. Today, there are few small wetlands left. Wetlands are very important to the ecology of coastal areas and are the home of many animals and plants. During this walk, participants will visit sites where Inwood Hill Park meets the Harlem River to learn more about the habitat and what needs to be done to protect it. Please arrive a little early. Meet on the corner of 218th Street and Indian road at the entrance of Inwood Hill Park/Muscota Marsh.

Utilizando muestras de tejidos y materiales incluyendo ejemplos de algodón de cera de Yinka Dutch, el equipo de educadores de MJM dirigirá una excursión táctil especial de la Mansión diseñada para niños y adultos que están ciegos o tienen impedimentos visuales. Gratis con la entrada de la admisión. En la Mansión Morris-Jumel, en el 65 de Jumel Terrace entre el oeste de la Calle 160 y el oeste de la Calle 162, un bloque al este de la Avenida St. Nicholas.

La biodiversidad del Pantano Muscota y las marismas cercanas

En un tiempo, los pantanos rodeaban la isla de Manhattan. Hoy, quedan muy pocos pantanos. Los pantanos son bien importantes para la ecología de áreas costeras y son el hogar de muchos animales y plantas. Durante esta caminata, los participantes visitarán lugares donde el Parque Inwood Hill se une al Río Harlem para aprender más acerca del hábitat y que hay que hacer para protegerlo. Favor de llegar un poco temprano. Llegue a la esquina de la Calle 218 e Indian Road en la entrada del Parque Inwood Hill/Pantano Muscota.
