UC Recap – October 23 – October 28

The Editorial Board of the NY Times penned a wonderful piece on the collaboration between the Audubon Society and local gallerist Avi Gitler. Mr. Gitler is the man behind the series of simply awesome murals that depict endangered birds. These fantastic murals have not only added splashes of brilliant life to Uptown but they also call attention to what is at stake if we don’t take care of the environment. Make sure you stop by the Gitler &_____ Gallery and show them that proverbial Uptown Love for such an awe inspiring project. Sanjay Gupta of CNN came Uptown recently for a piece on the heroin epidemic entitled Opioid addiction and the most controversial bathroom in New York. Dr.Gupta stopped by the Corner Project (566 W 181st St) whose mission is to significantly improve the health and quality of life of people who use drugs. Shout out to the Corner Project for their life-saving work. Please hit up the site to watch this must-see segment. Scott Lynch of Gothamist took a trip to El Barrio for some delicious Brazilian fare. Vidigal (352 East 120th Street) will be the next date night spot for the wife and I. Stay tuned for the review. Local actor Nelson Estévez, who is now based in Los Angeles, currently has a crowd funding campaign for a film project that is titled A Tale of Two Neighbors. The film is loosely based on his lifelong friendship with a neighbor that is of Irish descent.
