UC Recap – August 27 – September 1

 August 27 – September 1

Hundreds of folks came from near and far for the 30th Anniversary of the Riverside Jam. Electrical mishaps and a slight change in exact location could not stop folks from trekking through Riverside Park for the annual festivities. The event did not disappoint. Several DJ’s took turns whipping the crowd into an old-school frenzy. The cops eventually shut down the illegal jam but the 30th Anniversary Riverside Jam is now one for the history books. Word on the street is that there will be a Secret Garden jam in the Dyckman area sometime later this month. Follow us on Social Media for the details -@UptownCollectiv on Twitter & IG.

Mark your calendars folks! A Toast to Fort Tryon Park goes down on Wednesday, September 12. A Toast to Fort Tryon Park is an annual cocktail fundraiser for Fort Tryon Park’s upkeep and public programs. Celebrate and support Fort Tryon Park with community members and civic leaders as they honor Angela Fernández for her tireless work on behalf of immigrants. Food and wine will be provided by Tannat Wine & Cheese with craft beer courtesy of Dyckman Beer Co. and Latin jazz by Chico Álvarez & Mauricio Smith, Jr. at this year’s sunset soiree! This is the proper way to welcome Fall so get your tickets ASAP.

Earlier this summer the good folks at Presidente Beer and Boiler Room TV threw a truly epic bash to celebrate the launch of Más Fuerte, a short film by Sean Frank that looks at the Dominican sound system vans and the exchange of music, culture and traditions between Santo Domingo and NYC. The event took place on June 9 at a now defunct petrol facility in Long Island City that was transformed to a massive party space replete with custom made sound vans as well as incredible DJ sets from Nina Sky and DJ Prostyle. In addition, we were treated to performances from A. CHAL and El Mayor Clasico with Maluca La Mala hosting the festivities. Did I mention the free-flowing Presidente Beer for the entire duration of the event? This has to be one of the best I have ever been to, bar none. Well now, the searing short film is available to the public. Hit up the site to check it out.
