Have a seat – or nine.
Just after reopening the High Bridge, the Parks Department has announced that it will host a public art exhibition along the esplanade leading to the bridge.
The exhibit is comprised of contemporary sculpture by nine artists from the group 14 Sculptors.
OH SIT! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair will be on view in Highbridge Park in northern Manhattan through Nov. 8th.
The artists sought to respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair.
OH SIT! is framed as a command and looks to ask the viewer to really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.
As the release explains, “In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction.”
14 Sculptors is a group of professional artists who seek to create a forum for experimental sculpture and principally installation artworks. The non-profit tax exempt organization has been functioning under the auspices of the New York Foundation for the Arts for the past 42 years.
This exhibition is sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Rockway Artist Alliance.

Justo luego de reabrir High Bridge, el Departamento de Parques ha anunciado que auspiciará una exhibición de arte pública a lo largo de la explanada que lleva al puente.
La exhibición se compone de esculturas contemporáneas de nueve artistas del grupo 14 Escultores. ‘OH SIT! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair’ se presentará en el Parque Highbridge en el Norte de Manhattan hasta el 8 de noviembre.
Los artistas pensaron en responder con imaginación a la noción de sentarse o utilizar una silla.
‘OH SIT!’ se enmarca como una orden y espera preguntarle al espectador a realmente considerar el concepto “silla” tanto objetiva como subjetivamente.
Como explica el comunicado, “en un mundo frenético, el encontrar una silla puede ser casi imposible y acomodarse cómodamente en una puede ser una enorme satisfacción”.
‘14 Scultors’ es un grupo de artistas profesionales que buscan crear un foro para la escultura experimental y principalmente la instalación de trabajos de arte. La organización sin fines de lucro ha estado funcionando bajo los auspicios de la Fundación de Arte de Nueva York por los pasados 42 años. Esta exhibición está patrocinada por la Fundación de Arte de Nueva York y la Alianza de Artistas Rockway.
