National Thrift Store Day
ReuseNYC will join with 60 nonprofit thrift stores and local vintage shops on Mon., Aug. 17th to celebrate National Thrift Store Day, by urging New Yorkers to “shop second-hand first.” ReuseNYC, a program of the NYC Center for Materials Reuse, is fully funded by the city’s Department of Sanitation. It is a membership-based association of city nonprofit organizations that accept and redistribute donated goods.
ReuseNYC organized the first Thrift Store Day in New York City in 2013 to encourage second-hand shopping and to increase public awareness of the benefits of materials reuse. Shopping second-hand saves consumers money, and also reduces waste, conserves resources, and helps to create “green” jobs. And buying used goods from nonprofit thrift stores supports those organizations’ important social-service missions.
This year, ReuseNYC will carry on the Thrift Store Day tradition and encourage first-time and seasoned thrift store shoppers alike to get out and support their local second-hand store.

Día nacional de tiendas de segunda mano
ReuseNYC se unirá a 60 tiendas de segunda mano locales sin fines de lucro y vintage, el lunes 17 de agosto, para celebrar el Día nacional de tiendas de segunda mano, instando a los neoyorquinos a “darse una segunda mano primero”. ReuseNYC, un programa del Centro para Materiales Reutilizables de Nueva York, está totalmente financiado por el Departamento de Recogida de Basura de la ciudad. Es una asociación de membresía de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro de la ciudad que aceptan y redistribuyen los bienes donados.
ReuseNYC organizó el primer Día nacional de tiendas de segunda mano en Nueva York, en 2013, para fomentar las compras de segunda mano y aumentar la conciencia pública sobre los beneficios de los materiales reutilizados. Las compras de segunda mano ahorran dinero a los consumidores y también reducen los residuos, conservan los recursos y ayudan a crear empleos “verdes”.
