Artistic Dreams International and The New York Public Library (NYPL) invite children to join the Artistic Dreams Visual Arts and Leadership Program at the George Bruce Library on Sat., Apr. 14th from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Artistic Dreams International seeks to show children they have the power to create their own future. Neighborhood Writers
Let your creativity flow at the Harlem Library’s Harlem Renaissance II Writers meeting on Sat., Apr. 7th from 1:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. The writing sessions are supportive gatherings where creative people meet to read each other’s work, discuss their craft, and talk about how to improve and how to achieve their goals as writers. Reimagining Community
Discuss finding sanctuary in public spaces at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on Mon., Apr. 9th at 6:30 p.m. Public spaces like parks, sidewalks and public-facing walls, can offer narratives produced by residents and reflect a community’s values and norms. Gentrification often disrupts those narratives and blurs the line between development and erasure. Join the conversation and discuss the impact of public and public-facing spaces and their role in the development of community, commerce, and the fight for the soul of a neighborhood. Oyster Prints
Explore the digital oyster interactive in the exhibition “New York at Its Core” at the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) on Thu., Apr. 5th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Oysters have been an important part of life in New York dating back to before the Lenape used them for food and tools. Learn more about the many uses of this mollusk, including how it purifies New York Harbor, and then cast your own oyster print from plaster to take home with you. Fun in the Wild
Spend your spring break exploring the outdoors with the Urban Park Rangers at Inwood Hill Park on Fri., Apr. 6th from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. In this program of Kids Week Manhattan, young ones will learn all about raptors, birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. Guests are asked to bring their own binoculars and field guides, or borrow a pair from a Ranger. The group will meet at Payson Avenue and Dyckman Street.
