Summer Bounty
EmblemHealth, together with Harvest Home Farmer’s Market, is helping New Yorkers learn to cook and eat healthier by sponsoring weekly cooking demonstrations at three farmers’ markets in the northern Manhattan area.
Harvest Home Farmers’ Market mission is to bring farmers’ markets to low-income New York City neighborhoods and is one of the city’s largest managers of farmers’ markets in communities of need.
The cooking demonstrations of healthy dishes will be prepared using foods found at the farmers’ markets. Residents will be able to take home recipe cards, printed in English and Spanish, with nutritional information and step-by-step instructions on preparing the dish.
“We are bringing useful tools and resources to the heart of the communities we serve,” says David Flemister, Director of Brand Strategy and Community Marketing at EmblemHealth. “We want to show people that making small changes to their daily activities — exercising daily, drinking more water, eating fresh produce and vegetables — can positively impact their lives.

People looking for more information on local farmers’ markets are also encouraged to check EmblemHealth’s new mobile app “Small Steps to a Healthier You,” that lets users monitor their health and wellness activities. The app contains a pedometer, tracks water intake, and allows the user to set goals, earn badges and find healthy resources in their community.
The “Small Steps to a Healthier You” app is available at www.smallsteps.emblemhealth.com, the iTunes App Store or Google Play.
Harvest Home farmers’ markets are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

EmblemHealth, junto al Mercado de Agricultores Harvest Home, está ayudando a los neoyorquinos a aprender a cocinar y comer saludable auspiciando demostraciones semanales de cocina en tres de los mercados de agricultores en el área del Norte de Manhattan.
La misión del Mercado de Agricultores Harvest Home es el llevar mercados de agricultores a vecindarios de bajos ingresos en la ciudad de Nueva York y es uno de los mercados más grandes de la ciudad para comunidades necesitadas.
Las demostraciones de cocina de platos saludables serán preparadas utilizando alimentos encontrados en los mercados de agricultores. Los residentes podrán llevarse a sus hogares recetas, impresas en inglés y español, con información nutricional e instrucciones, paso por paso, para preparar el plato.

La aplicación contiene un podómetro, lleva record del consumo de agua y le permite al usuario a fijar metas, ganar medallas y encontrar recursos saludables en su comunidad.
