Book Extravaganza
Visit Word Up Community Bookstore on Sat., Nov. 7th from 6 – 8 p.m. as a group of distinguished poets read from their 2015 collections. Among those sharing their works are:
- Joanna Fuhrman, author of five books of poetry, most recently The Year of Yellow Butterflies and Pageant
- Yesenia Montilla, a New York artist with Afro-Caribbean roots, and author of The Pink Box
- Bronx native and NYU professor Urayoán Noel, author of In Visible Movement: Nuyorican Poetry from the Sixties to Slam
- Christina Olivares, author of No Map of the Earth Includes Stars, and winner of the 2014 Marsh Hawk Press Book Prize
- Joe Pan, author of two recent collections of poetry, Autobiomythography & Gallery and Hiccups

Coquito Tasting Contest
Welcome the holiday season with Latin flair with the 14th Annual Coquito Tasting Contest at El Museo Del Barrio on Fri., Nov. 6th. Coquito is a coconut-based, eggnog-like drink from Puerto Rico and is served in many Latino homes during the holidays. Guests will taste the recipes from this year’s Coquito Master Qualifier Series 2015 contestants, and help choose the final winner. Remember to bring ID to taste and vote. Concerts in the Heights
1865 marked the final year of Eliza Jumel’s life. Meanwhile, on the European continent, famed musicians Jean Sibelius, Carl Nielsen, Alexander Glazunov and Paul Dukas were born. Over the next 75 years, these four would push the boundaries of 19th-century Romanticism and help lay the sonic groundwork for 20th-century Modernism. Visit Morris-Jumel Mansion on Sun., Nov. 8th from 3 – 5 p.m. for a birthday party which will feature music from the catalogues of all four composers. Morris-Jumel Mansion is located at 65 Jumel Terrace.

The Taurid Meteor Shower
Look towards the stars on Sat., Nov. 7th as the Urban Park Rangers of Inwood Hill Park guide guests through the solar system, discussing the science, history and folklore of the universe. The highlight of the event will be a telescopic viewing of the Taurid Meteor Shower, which produces five to ten meteors per hour. Guests are asked to meet at Pat’s Lawn within Inwood Hill Park, located at West 218th Street and Indian Road.

Visite la tienda de libros ‘Word Up Community’ el sábado, 7 de noviembre de 6-8 mientras un grupos de distinguidos poetas leen de sus colecciones del 2015.

Concurso de degustación de coquito
Dele la bienvenida a la época festiva con sabor latino en el 14vo Concurso Anual de Degustación de Coquito en el Museo del Barrio el viernes, 6 de noviembre. El coquito es una bebida basada en el coco y huevo de Puerto Rico, y servida en muchos hogares latinos durante la época festiva. Los invitados probarán recetas de los mejores concursante del 2015, y ayudarán a escoger el ganador final. Recuerda traer identificación si desea probar y votar. El Museo del Barrio está localizado en el 1230 de la Quinta Avenida.

Conciertos en los Heights
El 1865 marcó el último año de vida de Eliza Jumel. Mientras tanto, en el continente europeo, nacieron los famosos músicos Jean Sibelius, Carl Nielsen, Alexander Glazunov y Paul Dukas. Durante los próximos 75 años, estos cuatro empujarían los límites del Romanticismo del Siglo 19 y ayudarían a sentar las bases del trabajo sónico del modernismo del Siglo 20.
Visite la Mansión Morris-Jumel el domingo, 8 de noviembre de 3 – 5 para una fiesta de cumpleaños la cual tendrá música de los cuatro compositores. La Mansión Morris-Jumel está localizada en el 65 Jumel Terrace.

La Lluvia de Meteoritos Apasionante
Mira las estrellas el 7 de noviembre mientras los trabajadores de parques urbanos del Parque Inwood Hill guían a los presentes a través del sistema solar, discutiendo la ciencia, la historia y el foklor del universo. El momento culminante de la vista telescópica es la lluvia de meteoros, que produce de cinco a diez meteoros por hora. Los interesados deben reunirse en Pat’s Lawn en el Parque Inwood Hill, localizado en el Oeste de la Calle 218 e Indian Road.
