Hit-and-run driver sought
Police are still on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver that struck and killed a Bronx man at a busy Marble Hill intersection on Mon., Feb. 23rd.
Daniel Cabrera, 38, was hit by a grey Dodge Magnum station wagon as he crossed Broadway at West 225th Street shortly before 7 p.m. that evening.

The driver sped off across the Broadway Bridge and into the Inwood section of Manhattan.
Cabrera was rushed to New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The vehicle was later discovered in Washington Heights, abandoned on the side of a road, police said.
Police have not released information related to the vehicle’s ownership, and are still investigating.
No arrests have been made.

Cabrera, an employee of Columbia University and resident of Cortlandt Manor in Westchester County, was on his way to the Marble Hill Metro-North station when he was hit, according to officials.
The accident occurred at a heavily trafficked intersection just north of the Broadway Bridge — adjacent to a host of retail stores, a 1 train subway station and a bus stop for the Bx7 and Bx20 buses, in addition to the nearby Metro-North stop.
That section of Broadway has been the site of repeated issues involving vehicles and pedestrians. In 2014, motorists injured 58 pedestrians on Broadway between West 225th and West 240th Streets, according to Department of Transportation statistics.

“Our city has seen a rash of hit and run accidents resulting in too many lives lost,” said City Councilmember Ydanis Rodriguez in a statement.
“When a driver flees the scene of an accident without reporting the incident or aiding the individual they’ve hit, they’re not only breaking the law but disregarding the well-being of others and their moral responsibility to aid them,” added Rodriguez, whose district includes Marble Hill. “We cannot tolerate these callous actions.”

La policía todavía está en busca de un conductor que atropelló, y huyó, matando a un hombre del Bronx en una intersección muy transitada de Marble Hill, el pasado lunes 23 de febrero.
Daniel Cabrera, de 38 años, fue atropellado por un vehículo Dodge Magnum gris mientras cruzaba Broadway y la Calle 225, poco antes de las 7 de la tarde.

El conductor salió a toda velocidad a través del puente de Broadway y hacia el barrio de Inwood en Manhattan.
Cabrera fue trasladado de urgencia al Hospital New York-Presbyterian de Columbia University, donde fue declarado muerto.
El vehículo fue descubierto más tarde en Washington Heights, y abandonado al lado del camino, dijo la policía.
La policía no ha publicado información relacionada con la propiedad del vehículo, y aún continúa la investigación.

Hasta el momento no se ha hecho ningún arresto.
Cabrera, un empleado de la Universidad de Columbia y residente de Cortlandt Manor en el condado de Westchester, se encontraba camino a la estación de Metro-Norte en Marble Hill cuando fue alcanzado, según las autoridades.
El accidente ocurrió en una intersección muy transitada, justo al norte del puente de Broadway – junto a una gran cantidad de tiendas, la estación del tren #1, la parada de los autobuses Bx7 y BX20, además de la cercana estación de Metro-North.
Esa sección de Broadway ha sido el escenario de repetidos incidentes entre vehículos y peatones. En 2014, motoristas hirieron a 58 peatones en Broadway entre las calles 225 y la 240, de acuerdo con estadísticas del Departamento de Transporte.

“Nuestra ciudad ha visto una ola de accidentes que involucraron conductores que atropellaron y huyeron, y que han resultado en demasiadas fatalidades”, dijo el concejal de la ciudad Ydanis Rodríguez en un comunicado.
“Cuando un conductor huye de la escena de un accidente sin reportar el incidente o ayudar a la persona que ha golpeado, no sólo está infringiendo la ley, sino también ignorando el bienestar del prójimo y la responsabilidad moral de prestar ayuda,” añadió Rodríguez, cuyo distrito incluye Marble Hill. “No podemos tolerar estas acciones monstruosas.”
