Community Board 12’s Youth and Education Committee, the Community Education Council, and the NYPD Community Partnership Program will host a rally and march on Sat., Jun. 18th from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The event is intended to foster better relationships between youth and police. The march will begin at the board’s office on 530 West 166th Street between Audubon and St. Nicholas Avenues and will end at George Washington High School on 549 Audubon Avenue at West 192nd Street. MakeMusicNY, known for free, live concerts on streets, sidewalks and parks across the city, is teaming up with Morris-Jumel Mansion for a summer solstice concert on Tues., Jun 21st from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. The acoustic concert will be conducted by local artists and will take place at Morris-Jumel Mansion on 65 Jumel Terrace between 160th and 162nd Streets. Teacher and artist Ivan Vélez will teach young adults how to develop their drawing style and how to draw in a “street style” to give characters more grit and dimension. The class will take place at The Firehouse located on 175 East 104th Street, on Thurs., Jun. 16th, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. The workshop is being given by Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN), a public access television network, which offers such opportunities to help participants learn all aspects of television media production. Curator Andrea Arroyo, together with artists from the “Uptown Arts Review,” will lead the “Best Practices in Marketing and Promotion” workshop.
