Bago is back.

The spoof video star of Pan Con Queso has just launched a six-part web series. Studio Heads is a mock reality TV show about a production company run by three men who are clueless about the business.

Tony award-winning Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda also makes a cameo appearance.

“Studio Heads was a passion project of ours,” said Michael Díaz, who co-produces the show.

It centers on three characters. “Ant,” or Anthony Palmini, wants to be a famous actor who is “married to a hot actress and adopts some hot foreign kids.” Jaime “J Fernz” Fernández wants to be the most famous singer in the world, adding, “because so many people be having sex to my music, they’ll name an STD after me.”

Bago is the hot-tempered one who’s frustrated because the other two won’t do what he wants. Yet his goals include producing their movies and music, “so I will own their pathetic lives.”

The actors play exaggerated versions of themselves. Bago is Díaz’s alter ego, who first appeared in the 2006 feature film, The Story of Juan Bago. Since then, Díaz has honed Bago’s physical comedy and developed his musical talents in several parody videos; singing and dancing the praises of VivaPoru and hookahs.

Bago is an over-the-top, high-energy guy and an all-out performer.

“He’s a crazy individual,” Díaz said of his character. “He just doesn’t care.”

The six episodes are hosted on Remezcla.com, a website devoted to Latin news and culture. “They’ve been very supportive, and on the back end, they helped create the platform,” said Díaz.

Fernández and Palmini both write and direct the series. They took their time, scripting it, molding the plot lines and defining characters. They shot and re-shot the episodes to get just the right feel.

Occasionally they had to stop while other work took precedence.

“But it got to the point where we had some really good stuff,” said Díaz. “We’re proud of the work—but we just had to put it out there. A lot of times artists work on projects but they never put it out.”

When it was finally ready, they decided to release the series Netflix-style – all at once.

Studio Heads is shot entirely in Northern Manhattan. Díaz said that when he first moved to Washington Heights, the main art form here was music. That has changed and now the area is full of artists of all types—including comedians.

“I believe in Washington Heights,” he said. “I want people to know that there is comedy coming out of here—and it’s inspired.”

Miranda has a pivotal role in the story. Without giving away any spoilers, he said working on the show was a great time. “My experience was a very funny afternoon with some very funny men,” he said.

Díaz hopes to get funding for a second season. Fellow uptown booster Miranda, who has been hard at work on a number of other projects, is definitely in.

“Sure,” he said. “I live right up the street.”

Bago está de vuelta.

La estrella del video de parodia ‘Pan con Queso’ acaba de lanzar una serie en la web de seis partes. ‘Studio Heads’ es un simulacro de un programa real de TV acerca de una compañía de producción dirigida por tres hombres que no tienen ni idea sobre el negocio. El ganador del premio Tony en Broadway, la estrella Lin-Manuel Miranda también tiene una aparición.

‘Studio Heads’ fue un proyecto de pasión de nosotros”, dijo Michael Díaz, quien co-produce el programa.

Se centra en tres personajes. “Ant”, o Anthony Palmini, quiere ser un actor famoso quien está “casado con una popular actriz y adopta algunos niños extranjeros”. Jaime “J Fernz” Fernández quiere ser el cantante más famoso del mundo, añadiendo, “porque hay tantas personas teniendo sexo con mi música, nombraron un ‘STD’ por mi”.

Bago es el malhumorado quien está frustrado porque los otros dos no hacen lo que el quiere. Aunque sus metas incluyen producir sus películas y música, “así es que seré dueño de sus patéticas vidas”.

Los actores interpretan exageradas versiones de ellos mismos. Bago es el alter ego de Díaz, que apareció por primera vez en la película del 2006, ‘The Story of Juan Bago’. Desde entonces, Díaz ha perfeccionado la comedia física de Bago y desarrollado sus talentos musicales en varios video de parodia, cantando y bailando las alabanzas de VivuPoru.

Bago es un tipo de gran energía y un gran intérprete.

“Es un individuo loco”, dijo Díaz de su personaje. “Sencillamente no le importa”.

Los seis episodios se han auspiciado en Remzcla.com, una página electrónica de noticias latinas y cultura. “Ellos no han apoyado mucho, y al final, ellos ayudaron a crear la plataforma”, dijo Díaz.

Fernandez y Palmini ambos escriben y dirigen la serie. Se tomaron el tiempo, escribiéndola, moldeando las líneas del tema y definiendo los personajes. Tomaron y volvieron a tomar los episodios para conseguir el verdadero sentimiento.

Ocasionalmente tuvieron que parar mientras otros trabajos tomaban prioridad. “Pero llegó el punto donde teníamos un material realmente bueno”, dijo Díaz. “Estamos orgullosos del trabajo – pero solo había que publicitarlo. Muchas veces los artistas trabajan en proyectos pero nunca lo sacan”. Cuando finalmente estuvo listo, decidieron lanzar la serie al estilo Netflix – toda a la vez. ‘Studio Heads’ fue filmada enteramente en el Norte de Manhattan. Díaz dijo que cuando primero se mudó a Washington Heights, la principal forma de arte aquí era la música. Eso ha cambiado y ahora el área está llena de artistas de todo tipo – incluyendo comediantes.

“Creo en Washington Heights”, dijo. “Quiero que la gente sepa que hay comedia que sale de aquí y es inspirador”.

Miranda tiene un papel fundamental en la historia. Sin decir nada al respecto, dijo que trabajar en el programa fue maravilloso. “Mi experiencia fue una tarde muy divertida con hombres bien divertidos”, dijo.

Díaz espera conseguir financiación para una segunda temporada. Su compañero Miranda, quien ha estado trabajando en algunos otros proyectos, definitivamente está.

“Claro”, dijo. “Vivo justo arriba de la calle”.
