The Coming of Carnaval
The Festival and Carnaval Del Boulevard Juan Pablo Duarte is a multi-block family festival started sixteen years ago when a portion of St. Nicholas Avenue was named after the Dominican leader Juan Pablo Duarte.
An annual celebration not only of family, but of ethnic pride and culture, it takes place in the heart of Washington Heights.
Festival proceeds are used to reach annual Foundation goals.
This year’s Festival and Carnaval del Boulevard will be held on Sat., May 30th on Juan Pablo Duarte Boulevard (St. Nicholas Avenue) between 181st and 188th Streets in Washington Heights from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This event will be full of the variety of rhythms, flavors and colors that distinguish Latin America.
Thousands of spectators are comprised by diverse groups, families, and children.
The Juan Pablo Duarte Foundation’s mission is to support high school and college students’ educational success through customized assistance and through the establishment of mutually responsible relationships between the Foundation and grantees. The Foundation provides academic and test prep support, financial aid, and application assistance and other school enhancement programs. Understanding that students have face different obstacles, the Foundation looks beyond grades to include other indicators of students’ likelihood of success.

La llegada del Carnaval
El Festival y Carnaval del bulevar Juan Pablo Duarte es un festival familiar de muchas cuadras que comenzó hace dieciséis años, cuando una parte de la avenida St. Nicholas fue nombrada en honor del mandatario dominicano Juan Pablo Duarte.
Una celebración anual no sólo de la familia, sino de orgullo étnico y su cultura, tiene lugar en el corazón de Washington Heights.
Los ingresos del festival se utilizan para alcanzar los objetivos anuales de la Fundación.
El Festival y Carnaval del bulevar de este año se celebrará el sábado 30 de mayo sobre el bulevar Juan Pablo Duarte (avenida St. Nicholas) entre las calles 181 y 188 de Washington Heights, de 11:00 am a 6:00 pm.
Este evento estará lleno de variedad de ritmos, sabores y colores que distinguen a Latinoamérica.
Los miles de espectadores están compuestos por diversos grupos, familias y niños.
La misión de la Fundación Juan Pablo Duarte es apoyar el éxito educativo de los estudiantes de preparatoria y universidad a través de asistencia personalizada y estableciendo relaciones mutuamente responsables entre la Fundación y los beneficiarios. La Fundación ofrece apoyo académico y pruebas de preparación, ayuda financiera, de solicitudes y otros programas de mejora escolar. Entendiendo que los estudiantes enfrentan obstáculos diferentes, la Fundación va más allá de las calificaciones para incluir otros indicadores de la probabilidad de éxito de los estudiantes.
