Art and Social Change
Join artist Andrea Arroyo on Sat., Jun. 6th, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. as she leads an art-making workshop where participants will create an artwork in response to societal concerns, such as the environment, social justice and children’s rights, and/or artwork inspired by Inwood Hill Park.
While materials will be provided, all are welcome to bring favorite materials to work with (including art supplies, photos, newspaper clippings, small family heirlooms, etc.). This workshop is available for artists, families, children and all community members free of charge.
The workshop will be held at Payson Center in Inwood Park (located at Dyckman Street and Payson Avenue).

Spring Sancocho
Visit the Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center on Sat., Jun. 6th at 4 p.m. for Spring Sancocho, a new production by the People’s Theatre Project (PTP)
As implied by its title, Spring Sancocho is a rich mix of different performances and/or original plays created PTP’s young community actors.
Focused on uniting members of under-represented communities and raising awareness through collaborative theatre making, PTP has worked with dozens of young performers and producers in creating its latest show.
This event is free; donations are suggested.

Hip-Hop’s Visual Style
What goes into designing and marketing an iconic hip-hop album? Visit the Musuem of the City of New York (MCNY) on Wed., Jun. 3rd at 6:30 p.m. and join Janette Beckman, one of the photographers behind the museum’s exhibit “Hip-Hop Revolution.” Beckman will be joined by Cey Adams, graphic designer and former Creative Director of Def Jam Recordings, and Bill Adler, Def Jam’s former Director of Publicity, for a conversation about the important relationship between sound, image, and design. The speakers will sit down with moderator and artist Dave “Chino” Villorente to discuss their experiences behind the scenes of the record industry and their work shaping the brands of various major artists. All three of them influenced the public face of such pioneering and internationally-recognized hip-hop acts as Salt-n-Pepa, Run DMC, and the Beastie Boys.
The Museum of the City of New York is located at 1220 Fifth Avenue (at 103rd Street).

Arte y cambio social
Únase a la artista Andrea Arroyo el sábado 6 de junio de 2015, de 11:00 am a 1:00 pm, mientras dirige un taller de arte donde los participantes crearán una obra en respuesta a las preocupaciones sociales, tales como el medio ambiente, la justicia social y los derechos de los niños, y/u obras de arte inspiradas en Inwood Hill Park.
Si bien se proporcionarán materiales, todos son bienvenidos a traer sus materiales preferidos para trabajar (incluyendo suministros de arte, fotografías, recortes de periódicos, pequeñas reliquias familiares, etc.). Este taller está disponible para artistas, familias, niños y todos los miembros de la comunidad de forma gratuita.
El taller se llevará a cabo en el Centro Payson en Inwood Park (ubicado en la calle Dyckman y la avenida Payson).

Sancocho de primavera
Visite el Centro Cultural Alianza Dominicana el sábado 6 de junio para Spring Sancocho, una nueva producción del Proyecto de Teatro del Pueblo (PTP).
Como lo dice su nombre, Spring Sancocho es una rica mezcla de diferentes actuaciones y/u obras de teatro originales creadas por jóvenes actores de la comunidad de PTP.
Centrados en unir a los miembros de las comunidades insuficientemente representadas y crear conciencia a través del teatro colaborativo, PTP ha trabajado con decenas de jóvenes artistas y productores en la creación de su último espectáculo.
Este evento es gratuito; se sugieren donaciones.
El Centro Cultural Alianza Dominicana está ubicado en el 530 de la calle 166 oeste.

Estilo visual del Hip-Hop
¿Qué incluye el diseño y la comercialización de un emblemático álbum de hip-hop? Visite el Museo de la Ciudad de Nueva York (MCNY) el miércoles 3 de junio a las 6:30 pm y únase a Janette Beckman, una de las fotógrafas detrás de la exposición “Revolución del Hip-Hop” del museo. A Beckman se le unirá Cey Adams, diseñador gráfico y ex director creativo de Def Jam Recordings, y Bill Adler, ex director de publicidad de Def Jam, para una conversación acerca de la importante relación entre el sonido, la imagen y el diseño. Los oradores se sentarán con el moderador y artista Dave “Chino” Villorente para discutir sus experiencias detrás de cámaras en la industria discográfica y de su trabajo dando forma a las marcas de varios artistas importantes. Los tres influyeron en la cara pública de pioneros del hip-hop reconocidos internacionalmente, como Salt-n-Pepa, Run DMC y Beastie Boys.
