Aretha Franklin and Clive Davis in Conversation
On Wed., Oct. 1st at 8:00 p.m., in celebration of the release of her forthcoming new album, Aretha Franklin will be joined by Clive Davis in a rare interview moderated by author and music critic Anthony DeCurtis. They will speak about Franklin’s contributions to music history and the making of her new album.
Each ticket includes an admission for this special event, along with a code, distributed the night of the event, to redeem a digital download of Aretha’s new album upon release. This interview will take place at 92YUptown, located at 1395 Lexington Avenue.

The Turn of The Screw
The Everyday Inferno Theater Company will perform Jamie Wyli’s adaptation of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw at The Morris-Jumel Mansion, at 65 Jumel Terrace.
The Turn of the Screw tells a story of a new governess that arrives at Bly, eager to take over the education and protection of two innocent young children left behind. The idyllic setting promises happiness and peace, yet as the seasons pass a darkness falls on the estate. Figures move in the shadows and peer through windows. Something is watching the children, waiting to take them away.
The Turn of the Screw will be performed from Thurs., Oct. 16th through Nov. 2nd, and Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Open House at the Apollo Theater
Celebrating the city’s architecture and design, the 12th Annual Open House New York (OHNY) Weekend will again unlock the city, allowing New Yorkers and tourists alike access to hundreds of sites talks, tours, performances, and family activities in neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs.
This year, the Apollo Theater celebrates two historic anniversaries: its 80th year as the premiere theater in the cultivation and presentation of African American and Latino talent; and the 100th anniversary of the theater’s construction, which opened in 1914 as Hurtig & Seamon’s New Burlesque Theater.
John Reddick, a Harlem historian and Columbia University Community Scholar, will offer perspective and insight into the Apollo and the numerous other theaters that once dominated 125th Street at the start of the twentieth century as part of the citywide OHNY event in collaboration with NYC Landmarks 50. Join him for an annotated walk through the neighborhood after this presentation, which will take place on Sat., Oct. 11th at 11:00 a.m. The Apollo Theater is located at 253 West 125th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues (otherwise known as Adam Clayton Powell and Frederick Douglass Boulevards).

Tambourines to Glory
The Harlem Repertory Theatre (HRT) opens its 2014-15 season with Langston Hughes’ Tambourines to Glory. Tambourines to Glory features Mario Brown (Platanos and Colored Greens, Romeo and Juliet) as
Buddy Lomax and Kyria Geneva (The Wiz, Dreamgirls, Ain’t Misbehavin’) as Laura Wright.
The HRT’s production of Tambourines to Glory will be directed and choreographed by Keith Lee Grant. Andre Danke (Broadway pit pianist for Memphis, Violet) has composed the jazz, blues and gospel score. A cast of fifteen singers/dancers/actors will perform Tambourines to Glory in an environmental setting: playing scenes around the theatre space only feet away from the audience. Tambourines to Glory will be performed on Sat., Oct.4th and on Sat., Oct.11th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15. The Harlem Repertory Theatre (HRT) is located on the southeast corner of 140th Street and Amsterdam Avenue (in Compton-Goethals Hall on the City College of New York campus).

El Teatro Repertorio de Harlem (HRT, por sus siglas en inglés) abre su temporada 2014-15 con Langston Hughes Panderetas a la Gloria. Panderetas a la Gloria presenta a Mario Brown (Platanos y Colored Greens, Romeo y Julieta) como Buddy Lomax y Kyria Geneva (The Wiz, Dreamgirls, Ain’t Misbehavin’) como Laura Wright.
La producción de HRAT de Panderetas a la Gloria será dirigida y coreografiada por Keith Lee Gran. Andre Banke (pianista de Memphis, Violet) compuso los coros de jazz, blues y gospel. Un elenco de quince cantantes/bailarines/actores interpretarán Panderetas a la Gloria en un escenario ambiental: haciendo escenas alrededor del espacio del teatro a solo pies de distancia de la audiencia. Panderetas a la Gloria se presentará el sábado, 4 de octubre y el sábado, 11 de octubre a las 7:00 p.m. Los boletos son a $15.
