He’ll have to make a bit more room on the mantle.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hip-hop Broadway juggernaut Hamilton was named winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama this Mon., Apr. 18th.
The show becomes one of only nine musicals to win the award in the 100-year history of the Pulitzers.
Miranda’s debut musical In the Heights was recognized as a Pulitzer finalist in 2009.
The other 2016 finalists were The Humans by Stephen Karam and Gloria by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.
Hamilton has already won several awards, including the Grammy for Best Musical Theater album, and is expected to be a strong contender for the Tony Awards in June.
The Pulitzer, awarded to “a distinguished play by an American author, preferably original in its source and dealing with American life,” includes a $10,000 cash prize.
“It is a tremendous honor to even be considered for this very prestigious award,” said Miranda in a statement. “This award is for everyone who has been a part of Hamilton’s six-plus year journey.”

El espectáculo se convierte en uno de los nueve musicales en ganar el premio en los 100 años de historia de los premios Pulitzer.
El musical debut de Miranda In the Heights fue reconocido como finalista del Pulitzer en 2009.
