Frederick Douglass Academy and MCU open student-run radio station WFDA
Staff and students from the Frederick Douglass Academy (FDA), along with representatives from Municipal Credit Union (MCU) and the Make the Grade Foundation, this morning officially launched WFDA, the new student-run radio station at Frederick Douglass Academy this past Fri., Feb. 28th. WFDA will be broadcast over the Internet, making it available to students, the community and everyone. The station, which started with funding from MCU, will provide students with the ability to learn all aspects of broadcast journalism in a hands-on, educational environment, as well as education in financial literacy.
MCU Chairman of the Board Mark S. Brantley, Esq., who was integral in the planning and development of WFDA, was excited for the positive impact it will have on the students who will be managing the station.
“The station will provide an opportunity for high school students to learn the various aspects of broadcast journalism in a fun, educational setting. Financial literacy will be a core component of the programming, while students will also be involved in the marketing, sales, interviewing, and developing other valuable skills.”
Other noted attendees included Dr. Bob Lee, who also had an important role in the development of WFDA through his Make the Grade Foundation, and MCU Board Secretary Shirley Jenkins.

Personal y estudiantes de la Academia Frederick Douglass (FDA, por sus siglas en ingles), junto con representantes de la Unión de Crédito Municipal (MCU) y la Fundación Make the Grade, lanzaron oficialmente WFDA, la nueva estación de radio dirigida por estudiantes de la Academia Frederick Douglass la mañana del pasado viernes 28 de febrero. WFDA será transmitida a través de internet, por lo que estará disponible para los estudiantes, la comunidad y todo el mundo. La estación, que comenzó con financiamiento de MCU, proporcionará a los estudiantes la habilidad de aprender todos los aspectos del periodismo radial en un ambiente educativo, así como educación en cultura financiera.
