Chamber of Commerce presents new seminars

The Chamber of Commerce of Washington Heights and Inwood present Management and Technical Assistance seminars for local businesses on the following days:

Marketing Your Small Business to the Federal Government

Back – to – School giveaway

The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center will be holding a Back to School Giveaway event, in which 1,000 children will receive school bags filled with essential school supplies this Fri., Aug. 24th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

These school bags and supplies will be given for free by the Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center and its sponsors, including the Islamic Center of North America (ICNA), Asociación Comunitaria de Dominicanos Progesistas (ACDP), and the Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), among other sponsors.

The back-to-school contributions will be available to all community residents, regardless of faith, race and ethnicity. This initiative is part of a national campaign of ICNA Relief, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, where around 25,000 school bags will be given out throughout the nation.

The Inwood Flea returns

The  Inwood Flea, the outdoor market and bazaar, is coming back, and organizers promise “it will be better than ever.”

The market will be held Sundays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 207th Street and Seaman Avenue, starting this Sun., Aug. 26th.

United Palace Cathedral presents Festival and Concert

The United Palace Cathedral will present a back-to-school community festival and uptown concert, which will feature Maria Davis, youth and HIV/AIDS activist.

The United Palace Cathedral (UPC) will present the “Let’s Move” Back-to-School Community Festival and Uptown Concert this Sat., Aug. 25th starting at 10:00 a.m. at UPC at 4140 Broadway at 175th Street.

This two-part event will serve as the close to the Youth Ministry’s Summerfest program and will help prepare children and youth for the academic school year.

Children and youth will be provided with give-aways, motivation, and a certificate of participation.

There will be food, music, and vendors, service providers who will focus on health education and healthy eating, with, among other activities, nutrition presentations  and yoga and exercise activities.

There will also be a talent showcase for children and youth.
