Uptown Cleanup

Join El Centro de Altagracia de Fe y Justicia on Sat., Apr. 16^th from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for the 2^nd Annual Uptown Cleanup. The clean streets initiative aims to engage local community members, organizations, and businesses to volunteer for street cleaning.‎

LGBTQ Youth Summit

Join the office of Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito on Sat., Apr. 16^th from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. for the Manhattan LGBTQ Youth Summit. This event, which will take place at the Tito Puente Education Complex in East Harlem, will showcase vital community services available for LGBTQ youth in Manhattan and will feature youth-led workshops, presentations, and opportunities for making connections. There is free registration for youth ages 13-24. Food and Metro Cards provided as well. The Tito Puente Educational Complex is located 240 East 109^th Street.

Melba’s American Comfort

Join fellow foodies at the Schomburg Center for Research on Tues., Apr. 19^th at 6 p.m. as it celebrates Harlem restaurateur Melba Wilson. The chef will be on hand to sign copies of her new book, ‎Melba’s American Comfort: 100 Recipes from My Heart to Your Kitchen. Wilson began her career at Sylvia’s Restaurant, where she launched the popular Sunday Gospel Brunch, and has earned numerous accolades and awards for her entrepreneurship and her original and family recipes. The Schomburg Center for Research is located at 535 Malcolm X Boulevard (at 135^th Street).

Dominican History Workshop

Visit Word Up Bookstore on Wed., Apr. 20^th from 6 – 9 p.m. for a conversation on Dominican history and identity. Participants will engage in discussion on the history of the Dominican Republic going back to when the island was called Kiskeya, and will also include the impact of the journey of Dominicans into the United States. The event will explore key dates, times and events that have been a part of this process and which remain relevant today. Word Up Bookstore is located at 2113 Amsterdam Avenue (at 165^th Street).

Limpieza del norte del condado

Únase al Centro de Altagracia de Fe y Justicia el sábado 16 de abril entre las 9 a.m. y la 1 p.m. para la 2ª Limpieza Anual del norte del condado. La iniciativa calles limpias busca involucrar a miembros de la comunidad, organizaciones y empresas locales como voluntarias para la limpieza de calles.‎

Cumbre Juvenil LGBTQ

Únase a la oficina de la portavoz del Concejo, Melissa Mark-Viverito, el sábado 16 de abril entre las 11 a.m. y las 6 p.m. para la Cumbre Juvenil LGBTQ de Manhattan. Este evento, que tendrá lugar en el Complejo Educativo Tito Puente en East Harlem, mostrará los vitales servicios comunitarios disponibles para los jóvenes LGBTQ en Manhattan y contará con talleres dirigidos por jóvenes, presentaciones y oportunidades para hacer contactos. La inscripción es gratuita para los jóvenes de entre 13 y 24 años. Se proveerán también alimentos y tarjetas de metro. Taller de historia dominicana

Visite la Librería Word Up el miércoles 20 de abril de 6 a 9 p.m. para una conversación sobre la historia y la identidad dominicana. Los participantes tomarán parte en debates sobre la historia de la República Dominicana, que se remonta a cuando la isla era Kiskeya, y también sobre el impacto del viaje de los dominicanos a los Estados Unidos. El evento explorará fechas clave, tiempos y eventos que han sido parte de este proceso y siguen siendo relevantes hoy en día.
