Annual Shearing

Take part in the Annual Shearing of the Heather Celebration at Fort Tryon Park on Sat., Apr. 7^th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The three-acre Heather Garden is the site of the annual rite of spring—the Shearing of the Heather by members of the Northeast Heather Society and Heather Garden staff. All are welcome to bring their musical instruments and join in the community parade through the garden, make flower-themed crafts, create boutonnieres, and have their faces painted. The entrance to the park is located at Cabrini Boulevard and Fort Washington Avenue.

Earth Day Party

Celebrate Earth Day with live animals that help keep our planet healthy and clean at the Inwood Library on Sat., Apr. 21^st at 11:00 a.m. Solve riddles to figure out which amazing animals received invitations to attend this VIP (Very Important Planet) Party and learn how some small animals play a huge role in nature. Create a festive “Pretty Planet” collage using recycled materials. The event is intended for youths aged 4 – 9 years old. The library is located at 4790 Broadway.

Puppet Palooza

Become a master puppeteer at the Bloomingdale Library on Wed., Apr. 18^th at 4:00 p.m. Filmmaker, director, performer and puppeteer Nicola Rose will lead a workshop on making finger puppets and bringing them to life. The event is intended for youths aged 13 – 18 years old. The library is located at 150 West 100^th Street.

Trio Talk

Meet Terri Lyne Carrington at the Jazz Museum in Harlem on Tues., Apr. 10^th at 7:00 p.m. For this event, Carrington will perform in a trio, with pianist Kris Davis and electronic music artist Val Jeanty (aka Val-Inc.). Following the music, host Larry Blumenfeld will moderate a discussion with Carrington, Jeanty, and author and lecturer Greg Tate about the intersection of issues regarding race and gender in the jazz community and society. Podada anual

Participe en la Podada Anual de la Celebración Heather en Fort Tryon Park el sábado 7 de abril de 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. El jardín Heather, de tres acres, es el sitio del rito anual de la primavera: la podada del Heather, realizada por miembros de la Sociedad Heather del Noreste y personal del Jardín Heather. Todos son bienvenidos a traer sus instrumentos musicales y unirse al desfile comunitario en el jardín, hacer manualidades de flores, crear botoncitos y pintar sus rostros. La entrada al parque se encuentra en el bulevar Cabrini y la avenida Fort Washington.
