Happy New Year, Folks… As always, 2015 will be all about spreading that Uptown Love. That is our primary objective over here at the Uptown Collective. This coming February 1st marks 5 years of celebrating, commemorating and documenting the past, present and future of Uptown on a daily basis. Thank you for loyal readership and patronage over the years. It is an honor to be at the helm of the voice of Uptown Online. It is a responsibility that I take very seriously. Being that we have crossed the yearly Rubicon, let’s take a trip back to the year that was with our Top 10 posts of 2014.
The Changing Heights is a website/senior thesis created by journalist Bushra Mollick of Stonybrook University. The project, replete with an excellent video and pictures, focuses on the changing face of Washington Heights. Take a long, hard look at the Washington Heights of today because it might not be around tomorrow.
Sancocho is SO much more than just a soup. The word soup does sancocho absolutely no justice. A good sancocho is a work of art. It is broth, beef, chicken, corn, yucca, potatoes, noodles and a whole heap of other things coming together for the sake of culinary alchemy. At its best, a sancocho, is like a symphony. Frankie P takes the essence of sancocho to create his latest opus. The Uptown producer wunderkind enlists a talented crew of contributors to make a mixtape that rocks all the way through. Frankie P’s Sancocho is a finely tuned mélange of new and previously released material. Frankie P continues his tradition of producing compilations that are innovative, intricate and daring.
Like I said on the last recap, Lito Kirino is an artist to watch. Well, Lito has just released the super solid Viernes 13 Vol 2 mixtape. If you are into Hip-Hop in Spanish, then it doesn’t get more cutting-edge cool than Lito Kirino.
Thanks to the good folks at Ford Motor Company, I will be traveling to Motown for the 2015 Detroit Auto Show on January 11th thru the 13th. Please follow me on Twitter and Instagram (@Led_Black) as well as Facebook for a behind-the-scenes look at all the automotive awesomeness.
