The Muppets Take Manhattan at United Palace
Story by Erik Cuello
The muppets are taking Northern Manhattan!
This Sunday, Jan. 12th, the United Palace Theater will be showing The Muppets Take Manhattan, hosted by the Heights’ own Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. The fun family event will be followed by a raffle for those in attendance.
The film is the first this year in the United Palace’s new series “Sunday Movies at the Palace with Lin-Manuel Miranda” which will run through June.
The film, starring the iconic group of muppets created by Jim Henson, follows Kermit and friends as they go to New York City to produce their Broadway musical, only to learn that it may be easier said than done.
Film screenings at the 3,000 seat theater are a new and exciting venture since they launched their “Return Film to the United Palace” crowd-sourcing campaign in which they raised over $40,000 in 40 days this past summer.
Since the reopening of the United Palace there have been a number of fun film screenings, such as the premiere of 200 Cartas starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, It’s a Wonderful Life with a special introduction by Mary Owen, grand-daughter of the film’s co-star Donna Reed, and Casablanca where guests donned evening gowns and tuxedos.
Following The Muppets Take Manhattan the next five movies will be:
- Feb. 23, West Side Story
- Mar. 23, Manhattan
- Apr. 27, King Kong
- May 18, The Warriors
- Jun. 22, Ghostbusters
