Understanding Small Business Credit
Gain a better understanding on managing credit at an event hosted by the NYC Business Solutions Office at the 125th Street branch of Popular Community Bank on Tues., Sept. 23rd from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Understanding what to look for on your credit report and the actions to take to build up your credit for your small business. The session will teach participants how to obtain a credit report, dispute discrepancies and most importantly, how to improve your credit. Popular Community Bank is located at 231 West 125th Street.

Between the Lines
Visit the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on Mon., Sept. 21st at 6:30 p.m. for a reading of One Righteous Man: Samuel Battle and the Shattering of the Color Line in New York. Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Arthur Browne will share the story of Samuel Battle, New York’s first African-American cop who broke the color line of the NYPD. Browne’s book will be on sale in the Schomburg Gift Shop and a book signing will follow the program. The Schomburg Center for Research is located at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard.

Trees of Inwood Hill Park
Take a guided walk into Inwood Hill Park on Sat. Sept. 26th from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. with Leslie Day, author of Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City. Explore how trees and animals benefit from each other. Take a deeper look at the trees of Inwood Hill Park for an understanding of the ecological relationship between plants and animals as they go through the change of season from summer to autumn. Guests will meet at the Payson Center in Inwood Hill Park located at Payson Avenue and Dyckman Street.

Visit the Studio Museum in Harlem now through Oct. 25th for Lorraine O’Grady’s exhibit “Art is…” Over more than three decades as an artist and cultural critic, O’Grady has won acclaim for her installations, performances and texts addressing the subjects of diaspora, hybridity and black female subjectivity. In her landmark performance Art Is…, O’Grady entered her own float in the September 1983 African-American Day Parade, riding up Harlem’s Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard with fifteen collaborators dressed in white. The images on view capture the energy and spirit of that original performance. The Studio Museum in Harlem is located at 144 West 125th Street.
