July 30 – August 4
August in New York City for me means only 3 things, the Dominican Day Parade, my birthday and the New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF). The 13th Annual New York International Latino Film Festival will take place from August 13th to August 19th. “The NYILFF’s mission is to showcase the works of the hottest emerging Latino filmmaking talent in the U.S. and Latin America, offer expansive images of the Latino experience, and celebrate the diversity and spirit of the Latino community.”
Now on to the topic of my birthday, please come out to my B-Day Bash and Nutcracker Inc. fundraiser at the awesome Buddha Beer Bar (4476 Broadway) on Monday, August 13th at 7pm. We will be raffling off a bunch of cool stuff such as Nutcracker Inc. merch, gift certificates for Buddha and 181 Cabrini and much more. There are only a few days left to our indiegogo campaign and we need to raise some serious cash. So spread a little Uptown love and get in on the action! Check out our latest promo featuring Juan Bago, Circa’ 95, Reynos and Kareem Savinon.
20 years ago Washington Heights went up in flames, anger and disgust. The Crack epidemic had changed the neighborhood for the worst and corrupted everything it touched. Washington Heights went from being a tough but working class neighborhood to an open-air drug market and a war zone almost over night. Check out our write up on one of the defining moments in Washington Heights’ history.
The super popular site, www.inflexwetrust.com, recently picked Uptown’s own Audubon as the unsigned/indie artist of the week. The good people at Heineken have put together, Ritmo Sonico, a series of private concerts featuring Eddy Herrera, Frank Reyes, Wason Brazoban, Sensato, Plan B, and Vakero. Subscribe to our newsletter and you may win a pair of tickets to the exclusive function.
Recently, the UC joined forces with Being Latino to put together a music, art, culture and fashion extravaganza at Negro Claro (3805 10th Ave). Much love goes out to the brands that took part in the event; Armed & Dangerous, De-Jé and FL20 Clothing. We were also blessed with amazing performances from The Machine, Robert Rios and Advocate of Wordz.
