UC Recap – April 18 – April 23

April 18 – April 23

Lin-Manuel Miranda continues to amaze, astound and inspire. He started off last week by winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a few days later was recognized as one of Time Magazines 100 Most Influential People. Lin-Manuel has completely and irrevocably changed the game. Lin-Manuel is an Uptown superhero. His work will be around forever. Thanks Lin for continuing to make Uptown proud.

The natives are getting restless. The reason being is that the 14th Annual Drums Along The Hudson will take place on Sunday, June 12th at 11 am in Inwood Hill Park. Drums Along The Hudson is a Native American and multicultural celebration festival that brings in summer every year in a proper way. The event is the only open-air pow wow on the island of Manhattan. Make sure you mark your calendars for this one.

You have only a few days left to help local twin 15-year-old students that have been offered an opportunity to study at the prestigious Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (JKO) School of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). The tuition is 15K per year. Go to our site to see how you can lend a helping hand.

Jacqueline Raposo of the Village Voice takes us on a Favorite Bites tour of Washington Heights with Tampopo Ramen owner Josh Frank. Do you know what Ginjan is? Natasa Bansagi of NY City Lens gives us the lowdown on this popular West African ginger-based juice that has made its way to our shores thanks to Guinean brothers Mohammed and Ibrahima Diallo.

Songstress Camille Safiya is back people. Her latest offering, Indigo, is an intimate and introspective 3 song EP that will leave you fiending for more. Miss Safiya is that good.  What happens when you hit the blunt? 8JTV gives you a hilarious breakdown. By the way, congrats to the good folks from 8JTV in celebrating 5 years of making people crack up. Okay just a heads up. We only have a handful of our tees left. If you want one step up now or forever hold your peace. Our Mood Music selection comes us from The Machine, Bonita. Shout out to the one and only Dister for the excellent visuals.
