During the past year, decisions were made to allow NYC Parks to install the infrastructure along the rock shelf parallel to Park Terrace East, ‘within’ and on the east edge of the garden, which will establish and feed the planned water service for all of upper Isham Park.

We and many members of the community feel this is a bad idea.

Here’s why:

• The construction, encompassing approximately 1/4 of the area within, will damage and ruin root and eco systems which have thrived for decades.
• The top soil on the rock shelf along the front running parallel to Park Terrace East is quite shallow in places and will be damaged by the construction as well as cause new erosion problems.
• Will the contractor ‘shift’ their plans left or right of the original digging site if the rock shelf presents problems, causing further damage within the garden?
• If ever there is a problem with the infrastructure or integrity of the water system ‘supplied by the garden’, will Parks arbitrarily dig in the garden to affect repairs?
  Valid questions. Equally valid concerns.

For the past few months we’ve circulated a paper petition addressing these issues.

We ask you read our petition and sign it to help protect the garden.

Then, if you will, pass it on to another concerned, interested neighbor.

The projections listed online are real.

Among other things, safety hazards will be caused by the present plan by Parks to initiate construction on Park Terrace East. By signing online, your action could possibly help prevent both the deconstruction of the garden and the creation of hazards to public safety within the neighborhood.

Durante el año pasado, se tomaron decisiones para permitirle a Parques NYC instalar la infraestructura a lo largo de la pared de roca paralela a Park Terrace East, ‘dentro’ y en el este del borde del jardín, el cual establecería y alimentaria el planeado servicio de agua para toda la parte alta del Parque Isham.

Nosotros y muchos miembros de la comunidad sentimos que esto es una mala idea.

Este es el porque:

• La construcción, que abarca aproximadamente ¼ de la zona dentro, dañaría y arruinaría raíces y ecosistemas que han prosperado durante décadas.
• El suelo superior en la pared de roca a lo largo del frente, paralelo a Park Terrace East no es profundo en lugares y seria dañado por la construcción mientras causa nuevos problemas de erosión.
• ¿Cambiaría el contratista sus planes en el lugar de excavación original hacia la izquierda o hacia la derecha si la pared de roca presenta problemas, causando más daño dentro del jardín?
• Si es que existe un problema con la infraestructura o integridad del sistema de agua suministrado por el jardín, ¿cavaría parques arbitrariamente en el jardín para afectar las reparaciones?
• Preguntas válidas. Preocupaciones igualmente válidas.
