Five international artists from the Dominican Republic will gather together on stage this coming Sat., Apr. 12th at the United Palace Theatre for a concert titled “Mi Música es Mi Bandera” (“My music is my flag” in English).
The quintet, composed of Johnny Ventura, Miriam Cruz, Frank Reyes, El Prodigio, and Hector “El Torito” Acosta, are committed to one singular mission: to create an unforgettable night of merengue and bachata, the tropical rhythms of the Dominican Republic.
Fittingly, the concert, presented by veteran producer Felix Jerez, is a collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism of the island nation.
“President Danilo Medina has established tourism as a main focus,” explained Jerez in a press conference held at 809 Restaurant and Lounge this past Mon., Apr. 7th. “He wants to boost the tourism and the best way to promote it is through our music. With this in mind, Dr. Yomare Polanco, President of Polanco Industries, joined the team also as Executive Producer.”
The United Palace Theatre concert is one of two area presentations of “Mi Música,” as on Friday, the group will also play at the Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Organizers noted that the concerts boasted of as much talent behind the scenes as on stage.
“We have legendary musical director Dioni Fernández and the genius Chiqui Hadad working with the artistic production,” added Dr. Polanco, assuring that the concert would a true spectacular experience of music and dance. “This is going to be a historic night. We have an all-star team.”
While the concert is being primarily promoted for its merengue and bachata performances, Jerez revealed that Dominican mezzo-soprano, Janette Márquez, will also join the artists on stage for a set. After a brief introduction on Monday, the young artist stepped up to the microphone to perform “Como me besabas tu,” a classic ballad by Dominican composer José Dolores Cerón.
“I’m so glad to be part of this great event,” she said afterwards. “I’m Dominican, and even though I don’t sing merengue or bachata, my music is my flag. I can’t wait for Saturday. I know it’s going to be an unforgettable night.”

Also creating buzz are the emcees for the evening.
Veteran Dominican entertainers Frederick “El Pacha” Martinez and Michael Miguel will host the event together – the first time that the two will appear on-stage in public. The two have often been painted as archrivals.
Jerez also announced that a third emcee had been added to the line-up: the jocular radio and television host Coco Cabrera.
“I was trying to retire from the microphone in order to give opportunity to young talents,” said Cabrera with his characteristic humor. “But then I was called by this great team and I couldn’t say no. I’m happy to be included; I know it will be a fun night of great music. Who can stay in their seats when merengue is played? Nobody! See you all next Saturday!”

Cinco artistas internacionales de la República Dominicana se reunirán en el escenario este próximo sábado 12 de abril en el United Palace Theatre para un concierto titulado “Mi Música es Mi Bandera” (“My music is my flag” en inglés).
El quinteto, compuesto por Johnny Ventura, Miriam Cruz, Frank Reyes, El Prodigio y Héctor “El Torito” Acosta, están comprometidos con una misión singular: la creación de una noche inolvidable de merengue y bachata, los ritmos tropicales de la República Dominicana.
Oportunamente, el concierto, presentado por el veterano productor Félix Jerez, es una colaboración con el Ministerio de Turismo de la nación de la isla.
“El presidente Danilo Medina ha establecido el turismo como un eje principal”, explicó Jerez en una conferencia de prensa realizada en el 809 Restaurant and Lounge, el pasado lunes 7 de abril. “Él quiere impulsar el turismo y la mejor manera de promoverlo es a través de nuestra música. Con esto en mente, el Dr. Yomare Polanco, Presidente de Polanco Industries, se unió al equipo también como Productor Ejecutivo. ”
El concierto en el United Palace Theatre es una de las dos presentaciones de la zona de “Mi Música”, el viernes, el grupo también tocará en el Teatro Ritz de Elizabeth, Nueva Jersey.
Los organizadores señalaron que los conciertos contarán de tanto talento detrás de las escenas como en el escenario.
“Tenemos al legendario director musical Dioni Fernández y al genio Chiqui Hadad trabajando con la producción artística”, agregó el Dr. Polanco, asegurando que el concierto sería una verdadera experiencia de la música y la danza. “Esta será una noche histórica. Contamos con un equipo de estrellas “.
Mientras que el concierto está siendo promovido principalmente por sus interpretaciones de merengue y bachata, Jerez reveló que la mezzo-soprano dominicana Janette Márquez también se unirá a los artistas en el escenario para un número. Tras una breve introducción el lunes, la joven artista se acercó al micrófono para interpretar “Como me besabas tu”, una balada clásica del compositor dominicano José Dolores Cerón.
“Estoy muy contenta de ser parte de este gran evento”, dijo después. “Soy Dominicana, y aunque yo no canto merengue o bachata, mi música es mi bandera. No puedo esperar hasta el sábado. Sé que va a ser una noche inolvidable “.

También se están creando rumores sobre los maestros de ceremonias de la noche.
Los animadores veteranos Frederick “El Pacha” Martínez y Michael Miguel serán los anfitriones del evento – la primera vez que los dos aparecerán en el escenario en público. Ambos han sido pintados a menudo como archirrivales.
Jerez también anunció que un tercer maestro de ceremonias había sido añadido a la alineación: el jocoso anfitrión de radio y televisión Coco Cabrera.
“Estaba intentando retirarme del micrófono con el fin de dar oportunidad a jóvenes talentos”, dijo Cabrera con su humor característico. “Pero luego fui llamado por este gran equipo y no pude decir que no. Estoy feliz de ser incluido; Sé que sera una noche de diversión y gran música. ¿Quién puede permanecer en su asiento cuando se toca merengue? Nadie! Nos vemos el próximo sábado! ”
