Summer Movie Night
Visit Sherman Creek Park on Tues., Jul. 28th as the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) presents its first Summer Movie Night. An annual series, the Summer Movie Night looks to bring residents out to their local parks for a night of entertainment. NYRP will be showing “How to Train Your Dragon 2” at 8:30 p.m. Complimentary hot popcorn will be provided. Sherman Creek Park is located at the intersection of Dyckman Street, 10th Avenue and Harlem River Drive.

Fashion Show and Clothing Swap
Join in the Eco Fashion in the Park event, to be held at Highbridge Park on Sun., Aug. 2nd from 1 – 5 p.m. The fashion event seeks to create a cost-efficient and environmentally friendly way to find new gear while showcasing talented designers. Attendees are invited to bring gently used clothing to the park for an organized swap. The fashion show, which will span the High Bridge, will feature designs from Amparo3, Tom Sohung, Martin Polanco, Bridget Artise and Sarah Buccus. Drop-off for the clothing swap boutique is scheduled from 1 – 3 p.m. The entrance to Highbridge Park is located at 172nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

Business Boost for Veterans
The Washington Heights-Inwood Development Corporation (WHIDC), a 501c-3 not-for-profit organization, is offering free business development counseling to veterans in Manhattan and the Bronx who are starting a new business or expanding an existing business. WHIDC will help veterans with to develop business plans, marketing strategies, licenses, certifications, and more, as well as with business and other legal issues.

Reading in the Sun
Celebrate the joy of reading and earn prizes through the Summer Reading Star program. The program looks to encourage all students to maintain and expand their literary progress over the summer, and consists of young readers reaching three tiers:
Summer Reader – less than 20 minutes per day
Summer Star – 20 to 40 minutes per day
Summer Super Star – One hour of reading per day
All Summer Readers will receive a Summer Reader book mark; Summer Stars will be awarded a certificate of accomplishment; Summer Super Stars will receive both and will be entered into a raffle for prizes. The reader with the highest cumulative reading total for the summer, per age group, will win a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Noche de películas de verano
Visite el Parque Sherman Creek el martes 28 de julio, ya que el Proyecto de Restauración de Nueva York (NYRP por sus siglas en inglés) presenta su primera noche de películas de verano. Una serie anual, la noche de películas de verano busca llevar a los residentes a sus parques locales para una noche de entretenimiento. NYRP proyectará “Cómo entrenar a tu dragón 2” a las 8:30 pm. Se proporcionarán palomitas calientes de cortesía. El Parque Sherman Creek está situado en la intersección de la calle Dyckman, la avenida 10 y Harlem River Drive.

Desfile de moda e intercambio de ropa
Únase al evento Eco Fashion in the Park, que se llevará a cabo en el Parque Highbridge el domingo 2 de agosto de 1 a 5 p.m. El evento de moda busca crear una forma rentable y amigable con el medio ambiente para encontrar nuevas adquisiciones, al tiempo que exhibirá a talentosos diseñadores. Celebre el placer de leer y gane premios a través del programa de verano Reading Stars. El programa busca animar a todos los estudiantes a mantener y ampliar su progreso literario durante el verano, y se compone de jóvenes lectores que llegan a tres niveles:
Lector de verano – menos de 20 minutos por día
Estrella de verano – entre 20 y 40 minutos por día
Súper estrella de verano – una hora de lectura por día
Todos los lectores de verano recibirán un marcador de libros; a las estrellas de verano se les otorgarán certificados de logro; las súper estrellas de verano recibirán ambos y entrarán en una rifa de premios. El lector con el total más alto de lectura acumulada durante el verano, por grupo de edad, ganará un certificado de regalo para un restaurante local.
