May 7 – May 12

NoMAA (178 Bennett Ave) will celebrate the New York City debut of Indigenous Rock Band Sak Tzevul on Thursday, May 17th 7 – 9 pm.

The program will showcase the unique musical message of the band as well as a conversation about spirituality and indigenous traditions in contemporary life.

Adidas teamed up with DJ Enuff and L-Boogs as well as up & coming Washington Heights artist DARK to honor the sneaker that is a Hip-Hop style icon, the Shell Top Adidas.

While we are on the topic of style, the good folks at LaVie Clothing Company have a new commercial with our good friend and viral phenomenon Juan Bago.

This week also saw a post on Rich Perez, who is the lead pastor of Christ Crucified Fellowship and his efforts to make the gospel of Jesus Christ relevant to the lives of the people of Washington Heights and Inwood.

Ok folks, it is coming down to crunch time.

Our friends at East WillyB have raised nearly 15K but with only a few days left to go on their KickStarter campaign, they need your help.

Remember people, if we don’t support our art, who will? So if you want to see more creative content, by and for the next-generation Latino, then you have to patronize and help to nurture it.

It is that simple.

Will Glass had a launch party for his album, Glass Breaks, recently and our video by Art By Dj Boy captures the magic of that night. Glass Breaks is a collection of solo drum works by Will Glass.

She’s back! That’s right folks; Chloé Michelle Fischbach aka The Girl From Washington Heights is back with a new project, Trollin With Chloé Michelle. Trollin is a mash up of the worlds of improve and online dating.

Trollin is available for download from her site.

On May 11th 1981, Bob Marley made his transition from mere mortal to the rarefied ranks of immortality.

Marley, the new documentary by Kevin Macdonald of “The Last King of Scotland” fame captures that magnetism and charisma and renders it quite beautifully with soaring and at times searing cinematography.

The film is available in theaters and On Demand.

Check out my review of the must-see documentary.
