UC Recap – October 10th – October 15th

In our never ending quest to spread Uptown Love, we are proud to present the very first installment of The UC Revue at the magnificent United Palace on Monday, October 24th at 6 p.m. The UC Revue is all about highlighting and showcasing the absolute best talent that Uptown has to offer. Lined up to perform in the lavish foyer of the United Palace are none other than Audubon, Tess and April O’Neill. The event is free but space will be extremely limited so please try to get there early. Once we reach capacity, doors will be closed. Don’t get it twisted I still have not forgiven SNL and NBC for humanizing and legitimizing a racist demagogue like Donald Trump a few months ago. But Lin-Manuel Miranda’s opening monologue on SNL on October 8th was one of the best in recent memory. Not to mention that Lin gave Washington Heights a sweet shout out on national television. “When I was just a kid growing up in Washington Heights, up in Manhattan, I dreamed of standing right here on this stage,” Miranda said. That’s major. Please go to our site to check out the brilliant opening monologue in full. Maurice Berger of the NY Times penned an excellent piece on the work of photographer Dawoud Bey and his current exhibit Harlem Redux at the Stephen Daiter Gallery in Chicago. Ok please go to our site ASAP to read the best response to a noise complaint from a passive-aggressive neighbor ever. Shout out to Gaby Del Valle from Gothamist for putting us on. Uptown’s own Audubon has a highly anticipated project coming out soon; it’s titled Exile. Tony Centeno of Vibe takes us to the listening party. By the way, Audubon will be one of the acts at our inaugural UC Revue at the United Palace. The Exception Magazine came to Inwood recently and hit up a bunch of great spots. Hit up our site to see which establishments made their list. The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute’s (CCCADI) opened its doors to its new historic location in El Barrio this past week with a awesome inaugural shindig. Our Indiegogo Spotlight featured La Galería Magazine, which is devoted to giving a voice to Dominicans in the diaspora. Keep checking us out at www.uptowncollective.com. Led Black Editor-in-Chief The Uptown Collective The UC’s mission is to become “the” definitive, transformative and community-based force impacting the arts, culture, business and New York City’s overall perception of Upper Manhattan.
