Halloween Extravaganza
The Cathedral of St. John the Divine hosts its annual Halloween Extravaganza and Procession of the Ghouls/All Hallows Eve celebration on Fri., Oct. 31st at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Participants can enjoy a screening of the silent classic film The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by live organ music. Immediately following each screening, guests can expect “ghostly mischief” and “ghoulish tricks” as the Cathedral is taken over by creatures of the night during the Procession of the Ghouls. The Cathedral of the St. John the Divine is located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue.

LGBT Recruiting at Columbia Business School
Columbia Business School’s annual recruiting event for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender MBA applicants, Spotlight on: Cluster Q, brings prospective students to campus to meet current LGBT students and alumni. Participants will learn about the experience for LGBT students at Columbia Business School and find out more about the admissions process.
Spotlight on: Cluster Q activities include:
- An admissions information session
- Discussions covering career management and student life
- Social and networking events
- Informal conversations with current students, alumni, and administrators

Keep the Music Playing Concert
JazzMobile’s second “Keep the Music Playing” concert celebrates the organization’s 50th anniversary. This concert will also salute the 10th anniversary of Senior Pastor, the Reverend Michael A. Walrond, Jr. Jazz saxophonist Patience Higgins will be the concert’s music director, leading a cadre of established and emerging jazz artists.
JazzMobile’s mission is to present, preserve, promote and propagate America’s classical jazz music. For 50 years, the organization’s performances and education programs have traveled throughout the five boroughs. “Keep the Music Playing” will be performed at the Sanctuary at FCBC located at 1912 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard at 7:00 p.m.

The 2014 Langston Hughes Festival
Best-selling mystery writer Walter Mosley will receive the 2014 Langston Hughes Medal at The City College of New York’s Langston Hughes Festival, on Fri., Nov. 21st. Mr. Mosley, who earned a master’s degree in creative writing from CCNY in 1991 and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at the 2004 Commencement, is the author of more than 40 acclaimed books which have been translated into 21 languages. He is best known for the Easy Rawlins detective mystery series, the first of which, Devil in a Blue Dress, was made into a movie starring Denzel Washington.
The Medal is awarded to highly distinguished writers from the African-American diaspora for their impressive works of poetry, fiction, drama, autobiography and critical essays that help to celebrate the memory and tradition of Langston Hughes. Established in 1978, the Langston Hughes Festival celebrates and expands upon the literary legacy of, James Langston Hughes, the poet laureate of Harlem.
This event is free and open to the public and will begin at 6:30 at City College’s Marian Anderson Theatre at Aaron Davis Hall located on Convent Avenue between 133rd and 135th Streets.

Extravagancia del Día de las Brujas
La Catedral de ‘St. John the Divine’ auspicia su anual celebración Extravagancia del Día de las Brujas y Procesión de los Espíritus Malignos el viernes, 31 de octubre a las 7:00 p.m. y a las 10:00 p.m. Los participantes pueden disfrutar de la proyección de la clásica película silente El Fantasma de la Opera (1925) acompañada de música de órgano en vivo. Inmediatamente después de cada proyección los invitados pueden esperar “travesuras fantasmales” y “macabros trucos mientras la Catedral está siendo tomada por criaturas de la noche durante la Procesión de los Espíritus Malignos. Reclutando LGBT en la Escuela de Comercio de Columbia

Concierto Manten la Música Tocando
El Concierto JazzMobile’s 2nd “Mantén la Música Tocando” celebra el aniversario 50 de la organización. Este concierto también saludará el 10mo Aniversario del Pastor, el Reverendo Michael A. Walrond, Jr. El saxofonista de jazz Patience Higgins será el director musical del concierto, dirigiendo un consagrado grupo de artistas establecidos y emergentes.

El Festival 2014 Langston Hughes
Walter Mosley, el escritor de misterio que más vende recibirá la Medalla 2014 Langston Hughes en el City College del Festival New York’s Langston Hughes, el viernes, 21 de noviembre. El Sr. Mosley, quien consiguió una maestría en escritura creativa de CCNY en el 1991 y fue premiado como honorario en Doctor de Letras Humanas 2004, es el autor de más de 40 aclamados libros, los cuales han sido traducidos a 21 lenguajes.
Es mejor conocido como Easy Rawlins por la serie de misterio, la cual la primera, Devil in a Blue Dress, fue hecha en película con Denzel Washington como protagonista.
