It did it again.
More than 6 million people visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which includes the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park, in the last year. The official number of 6.3 million visitors is the highest total since the institution began to track its admission statistics over 40 years ago.
Among the reasons cited for the spike was an increase in international tourism, especially during the time of the popular exhibit “China: Through the Looking Glass,” a textile and costume exhibit exploring China’s influence on Western fashion. It accounted for more than half a million visitors alone.
In addition, 20 separate shows or exhibitions last year drew over 100,000 visitors each.
Prior to this year, the Met’s previous record of 6.28 million was set in 2012, one year prior to the museum opening its doors seven days a week.
Attendance at the Cloisters Museum, which focuses on medieval European art and architecture, located in Fort Tryon Park, was also higher. Among the pieces found at the uptown Met outpost are a stone Virgin from the 13th century from the Strasbourg Cathedral in France, and the Merode Triptych, a 15th century multi-paneled painting of the Annunciation.

La asistencia en el Museo de los Claustros, que se centra en el arte europeo medieval y la arquitectura, ubicado en Fort Tryon Park, también fue mayor.
