Family Astronomy
The wonders of the universe are ready to be discovered. Highbridge Park is the perfect place to stargaze and explore the night sky. On Fri., Dec. 6th at 6:00 p.m., the Urban Park Rangers will be your guides to the solar system, discussing the science, history and folklore of the universe. Fall and winter are the best times to observe meteor showers, the phases of the moon, and the many planets of the Milky Way. All equipment is provided. This program is supported by the Fort Tryon Park Trust and will take place at Highbridge Park’s Water Tower Terrace which is located at 2301 Amsterdam Avenue.

Skating Celebration and Tree Lighting
Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) will present its annual free Winter Holiday Skating Celebration at the rink at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park in Harlem on Sat., Dec. 14th at 4:00 p.m. The show will feature performances by the professional ITNY Ensemble, the champion synchronized skating team, The Skyliners, and young teams from Figure Skating in Harlem, the Knickerbocker Skating Club and the local Riverbank Figure Skating Club, all culminating in the lighting of the Christmas Tree by local dignitaries.
In addition, volunteers from the Local Starbucks Community Store will serve free hot chocolate to those in the audience. Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park is located at 679 Riverside Drive.

“A Christmas Carol”: A Play with Music
The Morris-Jumel Mansion is proud to partner with performers Jeffries Thaiss and Eric Scott Anthony to present a fast-paced, imaginative adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday classic. Suitable for all ages, this two-man performance merges Dickens’ original text with both traditional and unexpected Christmas music, as well as sound effects. Actor Jeffries Thaiss performs all of the roles – Scrooge, Tiny Tim, the Ghost of Marley, and all your other favorite characters – just as Dickens himself performed it in 1853. Broadway veteran musican/actor Eric Scott Anthony accompanies all the action with traditional Christmas carols along with Victorian Era-sound effects. This performance will be held on multiple days from Dec 14th forward. The Morris-Jumel Mansion is located at 65 Jumel Terrace.

Coca-Cola Winter Wonderland
Under the twinkling lights of their famous marquee, The Apollo Theater and Coca-Cola invite you to bring the family for holiday-themed activities on Sat., Dec. 14th at 2:00 p.m. Activities include picture-taking with Santa Claus and amazing performances from local choirs. This event is hosted by the Apollo Theater’s Tour Director and Ambassador Billy Mitchell.
Additionally, in the spirit of giving, the Coca-Cola Winter Wonderland marks the start of its toy and book drive for children. CDs, DVDs and toys that are in new or good condition and suitable for boys and girls ages 3 to 18 are welcome. Donations will be collected through December 29th in the Apollo Theater lobby. All donations should be unwrapped.

Astronomía familiar

Bajo las luces centelleantes de su famosa carpa, el Teatro Apollo y Coca-Cola le invitan a llevar a la familia a actividades navideñas el sábado 14 de diciembre a las 2:00 p.m., las cuales incluyen: tomar fotografías con Santa Claus y actuaciones sorprendentes de coros locales. Este evento es organizado por el director de giras y embajador del Teatro Apollo, Billy Mitchell.
Además, con el espíritu de dar, el Pasaje Invernal Coca-Cola marca el comienzo de su campaña de juguetes y libros para niños. Se aceptan CD, DVD y juguetes que estén en buenas condiciones o nuevos, y que sean adecuados para niños y niñas de 3 a 18 años. Las donaciones se recogerán hasta el 29 de diciembre en el lobby del Teatro Apollo. Todas las donaciones deben entregarse sin envolver.
