Michael Buczek Little League Parade

The Police Officer Michael Buczek Little League Parade will be held on Sat., Apr. 13th. The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Michael Buczek School, located on the corner of Broadway and West 186th Street. The parade will proceed north on Broadway to West 181 Street; eastbound on West 181 Street to Saint Nicholas Avenue; northbound on Saint Nicholas Avenue and into the baseball field at Fort George Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue.

Tu Futuro, Tu Negocio Conference
Univision Radio has partnered with the East Harlem Business Capital Corporation (EHBCC) to host “Tu Futuro, Tu Negocio,” an all-day event that will provide free workshops and information sessions addressing the needs and concerns of Latino business owners and businesses within the communities that they serve. “Tu Futuro, Tu Negocio” will address topics and offer resources ranging from help in managing tenant/landlord relationships to utilizing social media to grow your local business. The conference is on Thurs., Apr. 4th from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Silberman School for Social Work at Hunter College, located at 2180 Third Avenue (on 119th Street).

Columbia University Community Scholars Program
The Community Scholars Program offers independent, community-based scholars from Northern Manhattan access to a suite of Columbia University services and resources in order to work toward the completion of a particular project or to attain skill in a particular area. The program will allow these scholars a formal opportunity to participate in the intellectual life of the university, providing opportunities for interaction with faculty, students, and other visiting scholars. It is intended to help to foster and deepen ties between the University and the many independent members of the cultural and intellectual community surrounding it.
The services include access to all the university’s libraries (including on-line access), course auditing privileges (in departments offering auditable courses), dialogue with scholars in their field of study, and the ability to participate in seminars and social events. A Scholar may wish to avail him or herself of all or some of the services offered; he or she may begin the program simply wishing to access the libraries, and later into the term opt to audit one or two classes. The program’s coordinator will assist each scholar to access resources and determine his or her needs, as well as alerting them to relevant opportunities on campus as they arise.
Eligiblity includes:
• Being a resident of the borough of Manhattan, living north of 96th Street;
• Students cannot have a current affiliation with Columbia University;
• Students must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Scholars will be appointed for terms of three years, and will be selected by a committee that may include Columbia senior staff, deans and faculty, and may also include leaders from local cultural institutions. At the end of each Scholar’s appointment, the tangible outcome of his or her term at the University would be submitted to remain accessible for future Community Scholars and others to review.

Town Hall Meeting
All residents are invited to a town hall meeting on Thurs., Apr. 18th with State Senator Adriano Espaillat to ask questions and address concerns. State Senator Adriano Espaillat, together with other local elected officials, will be holding a town hall meeting for the community to engage and provide input about issues in the neighborhood. Representatives from NYPD, FDNY, Manhattan DA, DOT, DOS, MTA, HPD, Washington Heights BID, CB12, CEC6, EPA, and Parks and Recreation, among others, have been invited to answer questions. The meeting is to be held on P.S. 187, located at 349 Cabrini Boulevard (between 187th and 190th Streets).
New Community Board members
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has announced new appointees to local Community Boards. One of the responsibilities of the Borough President is to appoint all 600 members of the Manhattan’s 12 Community Boards, half of which are based on the recommendations of members of the City Council. Every year half of the current board members must apply for reappointment and go through the Borough President’s revised selection procedure.

In Community Board 11, Susan Rodríguez is the Founding Director of the non-profit Sisterhood Mobilizing for AIDS/HIV Research and Treatment. She is a recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leader Award and the Union Square Award for Grassroots Activism.
Liliana Saneaux, new appointee to Community Board 12, is a professional translator (including for The Manhattan Times), who will serve as a bridge between the broader Latino community by providing translation services, both simultaneous and written, of Community Board initiatives. She is also a member of the New York City Police Museum.

Programa de becas de la Comunidad Universitaria de Columbia.
El Programa de becas de la Comunidad Universitaria de Columbia ofrece a estudiantes independientes, que vivan en la comunidad del norte de Manhattan, recursos y acceso a un conjunto de servicios de la Universidad de Columbia con el fin de trabajar en la conclusión de un proyecto en particular o para obtener habilidades en alguna área específica. Reunión del Ayuntamiento

Scott Stringer, presidente del condado de Manhattan, anunció nuevos nombramientos en las juntas comunitarias locales.
