Two Indiegogo campaigns organized by Northern Manhattan groups are currently raising funds for projects. One is devoted to music and spirituality—the other to music and spirits.

In the epic battle between aliens and ghosts, only one person can save the day.
There’s just one slight hitch.
“CJ is a butt-head,” said Inwood author Johnny Walker.
In Walker’s “para-sci-fi multimedia rock and roll trilogy,” CJ Singleton is a sound and light engineer, hired last minute for a multi-city tour with a famous rock band.
It is hard and sometimes gritty work, carried out in remote corners of old theaters. That’s where CJ discovers that there’s more to music than meets the eye.
A strange discovery allows CJ to channel ghosts through electronic systems, creating the most spectacular light and sound shows in rock and roll history.
The ghosts are understandably upset. The aliens are getting curious. The band and the media have no idea what’s really going on.
The book is very loosely based on some of Walker’s own experiences. And yes, that is his real name. A classically trained musician who plays rock and roll, he also worked as a sound man and has toured all 50 states.
“I saw a lot of creepy stuff in old theaters,” he said.
One night, backstage in a Knoxville theater, he looked up. A man in white coveralls was standing on a catwalk, looking down. Walker looked to see if anyone else noticed. When he looked back up, the man vanished.
When he got back to his hotel later that night, Walker found out his stepmother had died.
“I don’t know if there was a connection,” he said, “but it made an impact.”
Strange things kept happening and Walker took notes. While he never mentioned it to anyone, the novels were slowly forming in his mind.
Walker takes ghosts out from the shadows and lets them have center stage.
“If a spirit does actually come back because they’re not settled, and they really want something, then they don’t want to just stand there—I would think,” he said. “They want to get involved.”
The story—told in three books—takes place over a jam-packed, non-stop 13 days. It’s a funny, fast-paced tour of ghosts, aliens and the back stage rock-and-roll scene.
There’s also a major twist at the end. “It’s a real shocker,” Walker said. “Something you never saw coming.”
He is putting the finishing touches on the books. While Book One is out, he plans to release everything by July. The e-books will have snippets of music and short videos.
Walker wrote several songs specifically for the story. They’ll be available soon on iTunes. Including them in the book just isn’t practical, he said.
“All these things add up, and before you know it, your book is huge,” he said. “And who’s going to download a book that 15 gigabytes?”
Walker said the spirit world is essential to mankind’s evolution. “We would never look beyond the door, we would never grow, according to the spirits,” he said. “You can’t go out of your boundaries without imagination.”

Dos campañas IndieGoGo organizadas por grupos del norte de Manhattan están actualmente recaudando fondos para proyectos. Una está dedicada a la música y la espiritualidad-la otra a la música y los espíritus.

En la trilogía de Walker “para-ciencia-ficción multimedia rock and roll”, CJ Singleton es un ingeniero de luz y sonido, contratado de último minuto para una gira por varias ciudades con una banda de rock famosa.

Una noche, detrás del escenario en un teatro de Knoxville, miró hacia arriba. Un hombre en overol blanco estaba de pie en una pasarela, mirando hacia abajo. Walker miró para ver si alguien más se había dado cuenta. Cuando volvió a mirar, el hombre había desaparecido.
Cuando regresó a su hotel más tarde esa noche, Walker descubrió que su madrastra había muerto.
“No sé si había una conexión”, dijo, “pero me impactó”.
Cosas extrañas siguieron sucediendo y Walker tomó notas. Aunque nunca se lo mencionó a nadie, las novelas se estaban formando lentamente en su mente.
Walker saca a los fantasmas de las sombras y les permite tener el centro del escenario.
“Si un espíritu realmente vuelve porque tiene cosas que resolver, y realmente quiere algo, entonces no desea quedarse ahí, yo creo”, dijo. “Quiere involucrarse”.

La historia contada en tres libros, tiene lugar contada en 13 días repletos de acontecimientos, sin parar. Es un recorrido divertido, de ritmo rápido de fantasmas, alienígenas y la escena detrás del escenario del rock-and-roll.
También hay un giro importante al final. “Es una verdadera sorpresa”, dijo Walker. “Algo que nunca vieron venir”.
Él está dando los toques finales a los libros. Si bien el Libro Uno ya salió, planea lanzar todo en julio. Los e-libros tendrán fragmentos de música y videos cortos.
Walker escribió varias canciones específicamente para la historia. Van a estar disponibles en breve en iTunes. Incluirlas en el libro simplemente no era práctico, dijo.
