Homage 3: Illmatic

In conjunction with Changing Perceptions Theater, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture presents a revival of Homage 3: Illmatic, an original play by Shaun Neblett that was developed from NaS’ album Illmatic and pays homage to the album’s themes and lyrics. Homage 3:Illmatic will be performed on Sat., Nov.22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture located at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard.
The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a research unit of The New York Public Library, is one of the world’s leading research facilities devoted to the preservation of materials on the global African experiences. A focal point of Harlem’s cultural life, the Center sponsors programs and events that illuminate and illustrate the richness of black history and culture.

NYSOM Halloween Havoc 2014

NYSOM presents Halloween Havoc 2014 live from Target East Harlem Garden and Home Depot Garden located at 117th Street between First and Pleasant Avenues. Halloween Havoc will feature NYSOM’s Haunted Garden Experience. Along NYSOM’s Haunted Garden Pat there will be free candy, scary stories, face painting and a costume contest with prizes. The Haunted Garden experience is about 15-20 minutes long in which groups of 10-15 families will be allowed to go through the garden path. Halloween Havoc 2014 will take place on Sat., Oct. 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Silicon Harlem Conference

The Silicon Harlem Conference is the first comprehensive technology conference completely hosted in Harlem. The theme for this year is “Envisioning the Technological Future” where participants will celebrate Harlem, technology, music, art, video games, education etc. The goal is to provide a unique experience for every attendee. Participants help advance Silicon Harlem’s vision to transform the Harlem community into a technology and innovation hub. Every registered attendee will receive a Silicon Harlem T-Shirt.
Silicon Harlem is the uptown meet-up where people come to network around technology, entrepreneurship, music, arts and culture, social innovation and urban environmentalism.

Join in and enjoy live entertainment including music and dancing with Acopladitos; a community altar; paper flower making; calavera face painting, and more at La Casa Azul located at 143 East 103rd Street. Come dressed in calaca or catrina apparel.
Food will be available for sale as a fundraiser for the Becas Scholarship Program. Día de los Muertos Family Day will begin at 12:00 p.m. This event is free.
