Call it for the Commissioner.
Metropolitan Transit Authority’s (MTA) Dominican Society of Professionals in Transit (DSPT) awarded its first-ever 2015 Dominican Role Model award to the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC), Feniosky Peña-Mora, this past Wed., Dec. 23rd.
The Society hosted its third annual holiday luncheon and honored the commissioner with a plaque that recognized “his high achievements and inspirational leadership, serving as a positive role model for generations to come.”
MTA Program Officer and DSPT board member, Robert Gómez, cited years of hard work in engineering and academia, in which Peña-Mora resided as the Edwin Howard Armstrong Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, the Professor of Earth and Environmental Engineering, and the Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, Associate Provost at the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign and Associate Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – where he also earned his Master of Science and Doctor of Science degrees in civil engineering.
Additionally, Gómez acknowledged the Commissioner’s work at DDC, where he directs a $10 billion portfolio of 900 sustainable and resilient construction projects including the East Side Coastal Resiliency project, as well as the City’s Build-It-Back program, which helps residents who have been affected by the devastations of Hurricane Sandy.
He noted too the Commissioner’s humble beginnings, who lived in the Dominican Republic until moving to New York at 21 years of age.
“It is a great honor and I’m thankful to receive this prestigious award amongst my peers and the Dominican Society of Professionals in Transit,” said Dr. Peña-Mora. “I look forward to collaborating with MTA under Mayor de Blasio’s initiative for equity among New Yorkers in order to make New York the best city to live and work.”

Llamaron al Comisionado.
La Sociedad Dominicana de Profesionales en Tránsito (DSPT por sus siglas en inglés) de la Autoridad Metropolitana de Transporte (MTA por sus siglas en inglés) otorgó su primer premio Modelo Dominicano a Seguir 2015 al Comisionado del Departamento de Diseño y Construcción de la ciudad de Nueva York (DDC por sus siglas en inglés), Feniosky Peña-Mora, el pasado miércoles 23 de diciembre.
La Sociedad celebró su tercer almuerzo anual de fiestas y homenajeó al comisionado con una placa que reconoció “sus altos logros e inspirador liderazgo, sirviendo como un modelo positivo para las generaciones venideras”.
Robert Gómez, oficial de Programas de MTA y miembro del consejo de DSPT, citó años de duro trabajo en la ingeniería y el mundo académico, en el que Peña-Mora residió como catedrático Edwin Howard Armstrong de ingeniería civil y mecánica, catedrático de Tierra e Ingeniería del Medio Ambiente, y catedrático de Ciencias de la Computación en la Universidad Columbia, vicerrector de la Universidad de Illinois – Urbana Champaign y profesor asociado en el Instituto de Tecnología de Massachusetts, donde también obtuvo sus grados de Maestría y Doctorado en Ciencias de ingeniería civil.
Además, Gómez reconoció la labor del Comisionado en el DDC, donde dirige una cartera de $10 mil millones de dólares y 900 proyectos sostenibles y resistentes de construcción, incluyendo el proyecto East Side Coastal Resiliency, así como el programa Build-It-Back de la ciudad, el cual ayuda a los residentes que fueron afectados por los estragos del huracán Sandy.
Señaló también los humildes comienzos del comisionado, quien vivió en la República Dominicana hasta que se mudó a Nueva York a los 21 años de edad.
“Es un gran honor y estoy agradecido de recibir este prestigioso premio entre mis compañeros y la Sociedad Dominicana de Profesionales en Tránsito”, dijo el Dr. Peña-Mora. “Espero poder colaborar con MTA bajo la iniciativa del alcalde de Blasio para la equidad entre los neoyorquinos, con el fin de hacer de Nueva York la mejor ciudad para vivir y trabajar”.
