September 1 – September 6

This past Thursday, HBO and Team Epiphany put together a romping and fitting farewell soiree for the final season of Boardwalk Empire at the swank Cecil in Harlem. It was quite simply one of the best shindigs I have been to in many moons. Copious amounts of seriously decadent and luxe libations, an awesome DJ set by the renowned DJ D-Nice as well as a sublime performance by singer/actress Margot B. The event was as classy, cool and epic as the show that inspired it.

Our Time Travel Tuesdays post took us back in time to an article published in the NY Times on April 30th, 2000. The piece written by Nina Siegal delves into the origins of the majestic Unicorn Tapestries that make their home in the Unicorn Gallery at the Cloisters.

What is not to love about Warby Parker? You get cutting-edge cool and rock solid quality at a price that won’t break the bank. Their Fall Collection, which is comprised of nine new shapes in various colors and styles, is a sight to behold. If you take your eyewear seriously but don’t want to spend a small fortune than look no further than Warby Parker. The proverbial icing on the cake is that Warby Parker also has an altruistic bent. Warby Parker partners with non-profits like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. Through this initiative, Warby Parker has distributed more than one million glasses to people in need.

This week we posted the premiere episode of What’s Eating Harlem, which looks at all the cool culinary, cultural and artistic stuff happening in Harlem. We also ran a really creative video clip by Anthony Sylvester entitled uptown crve.

For the last 2 years, the Heineken Ritmo Sonico Festival has marked the end of summer Uptown. On Sunday, August 30th, Heineken brought a whole host of artists and DJ’s to La Marina for a proper sendoff to the season. Calling all photographers, you have until Friday, September 12th, 2014 at 5 pm to submit your work for the forthcoming Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) exhibit Selfless Selfies. Lastly, don’t forget the 30th Annual Medieval Festival goes down on Sunday, September 28th from 11:30 am to 6 pm.
