NYPD seek suspect in attempted Inwood rape

The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in an attempted rape that occurred early Sunday morning in Inwood. About 5:40 a.m. on May 6, a 34-year-old woman was returning to her residence at Broadway and West 215th Street, when an unidentified male approached her from behind and reached his hand under her skirt as she was opening the gate to her building, police said. The individual then placed his hand over the victim’s mouth as she screamed and fought to free herself from him. She ran into her building and the door locked behind her. The man then fled the location, police said. Surveillance footage from the nearby 207th Street A train subway station depicts the suspect.
