Impacted federal workers of the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) were provided with 14,000 pounds of food on Mar. 10th. Fresh produce such as apples, oranges, and sweet potatoes, as well as shelf-stable staples such as peanut butter, canned tuna, and canned soup were distributed by City Harvest. Similar events were held at LaGuardia Airport.
As the partial government shutdown continues, TSA employees are facing more weeks of work without pay and many are opting to call out or leave their posts altogether.
The food distribution efforts are intended, according to organizers, “to ensure that TSA and other impacted federal workers and their families have access to nutritious food during a period of added financial strain.”

El 10 de marzo se entregaron 14,000 libras de alimentos a empleados federales afectados de la Agencia de Seguridad en el Transporte (TSA, por sus siglas en inglés). Se distribuyeron productos frescos, como manzanas, naranjas y camotes, además de alimentos no perecederos, entre ellos mantequilla de maní, atún enlatado y sopa enlatada, gracias a City Harvest. Se organizaron eventos similares en el Aeropuerto LaGuardia.
Mientras continúa el cierre parcial del gobierno, los empleados de la TSA se enfrentan a más semanas de trabajo sin sueldo y muchos están optando por ausentarse o abandonar sus puestos por completo.
Según los organizadores, el objetivo de estas iniciativas de distribución de alimentos es “garantizar que los trabajadores de la TSA y otros empleados federales afectados, así como sus familias, tengan acceso a alimentos nutritivos durante un período de especial dificultad económica”.
