Unbreakable Traditions
A Celebration of Spring and Eastern European Egg Decorating

Go for wood.
A special hands-on workshop, hosted by the Tulipán Foundation and the Czech Center New York, will feature special egg decorating techniques in the Hungarian and Czech folk-art traditions. Guests of all ages are invited to join with artists to learn the techniques and create their own crafted designs – all on wooden eggs.
In light of the ongoing egg shortage, high-quality wooden eggs will be used this year – allowing for a keepsake gift. As part of this decision, the Tulipán Foundation has partnered with City Harvest to donate the equivalent cost of 1,000 eggs to help fight food insecurity.

Participating artists include:
- Ildikó Fekete, an award-winning egg decorator and Tulipán grantee, will teach the wax-resist technique and share insights from her research into Czech egg decorating traditions.
- Ilona Szelesné Kása will introduce an eco-friendly method using natural dyes derived from ingredients like red cabbage and onion skins.
- Emőke Berkovics will demonstrate the drop pull technique, a traditional method for creating intricate geometric and floral designs with beeswax.
A curated exhibition of decorated eggs will highlight each of the three techniques, offering a visual appreciation of these folk art traditions.

Guests will enjoy seasonal delights, including fresh challah and Hungarian specialties. A fun-filled goodie bag hunt will be offered to young participants.
The event is free and open to all guests, and requires advance registration at tulipanfoundationnyc.org.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. at Bohemian National Hall, located at 321 East 73rd Street, New York City.
Tradiciones Inquebrantables
