I have a confession to make. Please don’t judge me. I have a thing for the Pumpkin House, which in my opinion is one of the most unique properties in all of New York City And when I say I have a “thing” for the Pumpkin House, I mean I have an unhealthy obsession with the oddly shaped edifice. Get this; I have already planned, down to the minutia, the historic house-warming party that I will throw once we have completed the 1.3 million dollar renovation that will be co-sponsored by HGTV. On that note, our Time Travel Tuesday post featured an article from August 13th 2008 from the NY Times on the Pumpkin House and it’s enigmatic owner, William Spink.
Did you know that the 1st Latina Women Encounter in New York City was held on Saturday, March 30th at the Gregorio Luperón High School? The gathering or Encuentro was presented by Da Urban Butterflies Youth Leadership Development Project and Casa Verde Camila and brought together over 200 Latina women from different New York City communities, ages and experiences. We posted a recap of the historic event penned by the founder of Da Urban Butterflies, Claudia De La Cruz, replete with pictures and video courtesy of our very own Art By Dj Boy.
This week also saw a posting of the transcript of Councilmen’s Ydanis Rodriguez 2013 State of Northern Manhattan Address. In addition we posted a stunning picture of the GWB by Alhaji Samura. Speaking of amazing images, our Picture of the Week comes to us via the incomparable Paul Lomax.
A slew of new music came out this week. Our Monday Mood Music featured a new song and video by the homie Dominante entitled I Got You. The super-talented Dubwork released the infectious tune Pinot Grigio. Uptown Hip-Hop blog, Cloud9yne also dropped an exhaustive mix-tape of Uptown artists properly named Uptown’s Finest Vol. 2.
The Best of the Boogie Down column by Jenni Ruiza posed the question: Does the Kingsbridge National Ice Center (KNIC) represent the dawn of a new era in the Bronx? By the way folks, the indispensable NoMAA gallery is giving you the opportunity of etching your name into the Uptown arts landscape by contributing to their mural project.
