February 18 – February 23
All roads lead to the Fort Washington Collegiate Church on 181st Street on Thursday, February 28 for the Up Theater Company’s annual shindig Onward and UPward. Believe me folks this is one party you don’t want to miss. This year’s honoree is none other than Veronica Liu. Veronica Liu is an absolute powerhouse. She saw a need in our community and then moved mountains to address that need. Word Up Books went from an idea to becoming a reality at breakneck speed. It is now an Uptown institution. Veronica Liu is a tireless fighter for arts, learning and culture in our neighborhood and exemplifies Upstandingness. With that said, make sure your in attendance for what will be a special evening.
Once again, it’s on. The fourth annual Inwood Film Festival goes down from March 14th to the 16th at the Campbell Sports Center. In celebration of Women’s History Month, NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance) in partnership with Broadway Housing Communities (BHC) and The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling presents Women in the Heights – Creating for Change. The exhibit takes place from March 8th to the 29th at the Rio II Gallery (583 Riverside Drive) with an opening reception on March 8 and an Artist Talk/Workshop and Closing Reception on March 29, 6:30pm
- David Goodman of the NY Times penned a piece about the decline in public sex in New York City parks. One of the parks discussed in the article is Fort Tryon Park. The problem is that the decline is pure fiction. I live right next to Fort Tryon Park and I know for a fact that it has an active cruising problem. Go there early on the weekend and you see throngs of men looking for partners quite boldly. It is an open secret and the article does nothing to change that.
