May 21 – May 26
Guess what folks, the 2012 World Science Festival kicks off in our very own backyard on May 30th. The United Palace Theater will host the festival’s opening night event, “Icarus at the Edge of Time,” a multimedia performance piece about a boy who challenges the formidable power of a black hole.
The People’s Theatre Project in tandem with the Morris Jumel Mansion is putting together an incredible theatre festival in the Heights from June 21st to June 24th.
Part of the Uptown Arts Stroll, this festival of staged readings is a celebration of People’s Theatre Project’s 2011-2012 Resident Playwrights Unit.
The writers have worked together over the past 8 months to develop new works inspired by the community of Washington Heights. Drums Along the Hudson 2012 was simply amazing. Check out our pictures of the event courtesy of the brilliant Briana E. Heard. The event was so amazing in fact, that it deserved another look via the lens of Art By Dj Boy.
Our good friend and one of the future stars of the new MTV docu-drama The Heights, Audubon has a new video out for the song Hope. The production, the vocals and the visuals are all top notch.
This week the UC also delivered the world wide premiere of Juan Bago & O’s latest viral banger, Ay C.O.N.O. This is my estimation, the best of what the dynamic duo has done thus far.
We ended the week with another awesome Instagram Uptown column featuring the eye-popping pictures of photographer, filmmaker and all-around good dude, Nelson Noel Salcedo.
Shout out to him and that entire camp.
By the way, the NY Daily News profiled our Nutcracker Inc. project on Friday, May 25th and gave us a nice boost. We still need your help though to bring this documentary to light. Check out http://indiegogo.com/NutcrackerInc and donate if you can. If you cannot, please help us make it happen by spreading the word. You may have noticed that the site has a new look. We are also looking for select advertisers to partner with the UC. In addition, we are offering social media, branding, photography and video services. If you are interested please send us an email at UptownCollective@gmail.com or call us at 646.820.2405.
