UC Recap – August 6 – August 11

August 6 – August 11

This week saw the World Premiere of the video for “In the Name Of” by Oveous Maximus. “In the Name Of” is the first song off of the highly anticipated “Kill Your Myth” album. The video directed by Gabriel Guzman of Atomicus Films captures the raw intensity of the song. Much love goes out to Oveous for honoring us with the world premiere of the video.

You may have heard loud cheers erupting throughout Washington Heights last week as Dominican-American Félix Sánchez won his 2nd gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles. Sánchez dedicated the win to his beloved grandmother, who passed away 4 years ago as he was preparing to compete in the Beijing Olympics. Speaking of the Olympics, we ran an inspiring post by my wife and our wellness contributor, Eileen Z. Fuentes, on Olympian Gabby Douglas.

This is the last week for our indiegogo campaign and needless to say we REALLY need your help. This movie is not just the definitive documentary on the Nutcracker but it is also a people’s history of our beloved Washington Heights. This film documents the last 20+ years in this neighborhood with humor, candidness and conviction and it is a fitting testament to the greatness and grandeur of this community. This movie will see the light of the day, how fast it makes it to the masses is up to you.

Being that the Dominican Day Parade was this past Sunday, we thought it would be cool to take a trip through memory lane and take a gander at the Post DR Parade festivities that took place Uptown in 2010. The awesome images are courtesy of Uptown’s own Briana E. Heard.

Instameet is a meetup put together initially by Instagram. People from different parts of the world and all walks of life meet up with one thing in common, the love of photography and Instagram. Our very own Art By Dj Boy was at the last Instawalk NYC. Check out the video of his adventure. We also posted pictures of the very special birthday party at Le Chéile (839 West 181st Street) for beloved local figure, Will Teez who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.
