On a picture perfect Sunday, August 11th to be exact, the 32nd Annual Dominican Day Parade took place on Sixth Avenue with a half a million people showing up from all over the Dominican Diaspora for an all out celebration of Dominican Identity. The Uptown Collective was there as usual to capture all the magic and pageantry. Being that Washington Heights is the unofficial third capital city of the Dominican Republic, our community was well represented at that special occasion.
Audubon’s latest opus, Hotel Audubon, has been garnering considerable critical acclaim. Hotel Audubon is a super solid effort from one of Uptown’s most talented artists. The Uptown Collective was one of the proud sponsors of the official Hotel Audubon listening party at Tette (154 Post Avenue) that went down on Sunday, August 4th. Our Uptown Video column featured a hilarious video from our good friends at That’s Dominican entitled La Venganza de Ambiorix. We also posted the new video from Basic featuring Casino, Luxury And Art. Our indiegogo Spotlight column focused on the award-winning documentary El Barrio Tours: Gentrification in East Harlem by Andrew J. Padilla.
Brisk Bodega Chat is a multi-city video series that highlights the actors, entertainers as well as the local movers and shakers that help to make their respective neighborhoods great. Hosted by friend to the UC, Juan Bago, Bodega Chat offers an engaging look at Latino communities across the country. The second episode in the series features Spanish Harlem emcee Bodega Bamz. The Best of the Boogie Down column by Jenni Ruiza took a look at some of the promising musical talent coming out the Bronx.
Ladies and gentlemen, WHIN V goes down at Negro Claro (3805 10th Avenue) on Thursday, August 29th. If you want to experience what this whole Uptown Hip-Hop thing is all about then it becomes imperative that you be in the building for WHIN V. WHIN By Any Means has become the place where stars are born and reputations are made – WHIN V will be no exception.
