Highbridge Photo Walk
Photography enthusiasts are invited to a photo walk-through Highbridge Park on Sat., Feb. 20th at 11:30 a.m. Bring your camera and join naturalist and photographer Mike Feller on a winter walk near the river in Highbridge Park. Feller will discuss strategies for dealing with difficult lighting situations, lens and zoom choice for perspective control, and demonstrate the use of a large format film camera. Guests will meet at the entrance of Highbridge Park, located at West 172nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

Lego City Series
Let the imagination run wild with Lego City at the Inwood Library beginning Wed., Feb. 24th as children create their very own city in this four-session workshop series using LEGO® bricks. Each session focuses on the importance of infrastructure design brought to life through a fun and exciting medium.
February 24
Where We Live- participants will plan and build a place to live using LEGO® bricks and pieces.
March 3
Where We Play – participants will work in groups to plan, design, and build their version of a playground with Legos.
March 9
How We Move – participants will learn about the different methods people use to get from point A to point B. They will then plan and build a mode of transportation using LEGO® bricks and pieces.
March 16
How We Connect – participants will learn about different bridges, then work in groups to design and build a bridge out of LEGO® bricks for their city. Students are encouraged to be creative and use as many different patterns as they can. Once they complete their bridge, they will do a weight test to see how sturdy each bridge is.

Visit Word Up Bookstore on Tues., Feb. 23rd from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. for a teen writing program. Word Up has teamed up with Word at 4F—the traveling open mic and spoken word series—to create EXPRESSIONS, a teen writing and spoken word program. Workshops will be led by veteran spoken word artist and poet Roya Marsh. Following the session, teens will have the opportunity to perform their work in front of their peers and a general audience. At the program’s end, the teens’ work will be published in a book. Word Up Bookstore is located at 2113 Amsterdam Avenue (at 165th Street).

The Black Presidency
Visit the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on Wed., Feb. 17th 6:30 for a conversation on race and the presidency of Barack Obama. The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America provides a provocative, lively dive into the meaning of America’s first black president and first black presidency, from acclaimed author, radio host and sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson will be in conversation with MSNBC correspondent Joy Reid. A book signing will follow. The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is located at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard (at 135th Street).

Caminata fotográfica en Highbridge
Se invita a los entusiastas de la fotografía a un paseo fotográfico a través de Highbridge Park el sábado 20 de febrero a las 11:30 am. Series ciudad Lego

Participantes de “Donde Vivimos” planificarán y construirán un lugar para vivir utilizando bloques y piezas LEGO®.
3 de marzo
Participantes de “Donde Vivimos” trabajarán en grupos para planificar, diseñar y construir su propia versión de un parque infantil con Legos.
9 de marzo
Participantes de “Cómo Nos Movemos” aprenderán sobre los diferentes métodos que la gente utiliza para ir del punto A al punto B, entonces planificarán y construirán una forma de transporte usando bloques y piezas LEGO®.
16 de marzo
Participantes de “Cómo Nos Conectamos” aprenderán sobre los diferentes puentes, entonces trabajar en grupos para diseñar y construir un puente de bloques LEGO® para su ciudad. Se anima a los estudiantes a ser creativos y utilizar tantos patrones diferentes como puedan. Una vez que completen su puente harán una prueba de peso para ver qué tan robustos son.

Word Up se ha asociado con Word at 4F, la serie de micrófono abierto y palabra hablada itinerante para crear EXPRESSIONS, un programa de escritura y palabra hablada para adolescentes.
