Policymakers, elected officials and advocates took part in OHEL Children’s Home and Family Services’ 4^th Annual Legislative Breakfast last month.

Founded in 1969, OHEL provides an array of social services involving foster care, developmental disability, mental health and wellness programs.

Speakers at this year’s event on March 31st included former New York State Governor David Paterson, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and City Councilmembers Mark Levine, David G. Greenfield, Rory Lancman and Vincent Gentile.

Chief Executive Officer David Mandel announced OHEL’s new calendar, titled Look Beyond: Celebrating the beauty of us all. It was created with renowned fashion photographer Rick Guidotti, which spotlights OHEL clients diagnosed with autism.

“Disability transcends gender, age, religion, level of ability and socioeconomic status, and it is OHEL’s responsibility to ensure a more inclusive community where every individual can contribute and thrive to the best of his or her abilities,” said Mandel.

Paterson, who is legally blind, spoke of overcoming his disability as a child. He shared his experience of stigmatization, regaining his self-esteem, and his devotion to the betterment of others through public service.

Greenfield was honored for his community work and longtime support of OHEL. This summer, OHEL will open the new Jaffa Family Campus opening Summer 2017 in Greenfield’s Brooklyn district of Flatbush.

“Time and time again, they deliver,” Greenfield said of the organization. “Their positive impact is immediate, tangible and transformative.”

Legisladores, funcionarios electos y defensores participaron en el cuarto desayuno legislativo anual de Hogar para Niños y Servicios para la Familia el mes pasado OHEL.

Fundada en 1969, OHEL proporciona una serie de servicios sociales que incluyen programas de cuidado temporal, discapacidad del desarrollo, salud mental y bienestar.

Los oradores del evento del 31 de marzo de este año incluyeron al ex gobernador del estado de Nueva York, David Paterson; a la presidenta del condado de Manhattan, Gale Brewer, y a los concejales Mark Levine, David G. Greenfield, Rory Lancman y Vincent Gentile.

Paterson, quien es legalmente ciego, habló de superar su discapacidad siendo niño. Compartió su experiencia de estigmatización, el recobrar su autoestima y su devoción por el mejoramiento de los demás a través del servicio público.

Greenfield fue honrado por su trabajo comunitario y apoyo de mucho tiempo a OHEL. Este verano, OHEL abrirá el nuevo Campus de la Familia Jaffa que abrirá el verano de 2017 en el distrito Flatbush de Greenfield en Brooklyn.

“Una y otra vez, cumplen,” dijo Greenfield de la organización. “Su impacto positivo es inmediato, tangible y transformador”.
